Painted the car this blueish green a few weeks ago. Looks like it's baby blue in pics, but it's actually more greenish.


later found out that the turbo was just a stock t-25, had a lot of electrical issues (kept on blowin injectors) and there was some rust nothing to crazy bov was a freddy the ic piping was ghetto coils were not megan they were emotors -.- I can go on and on but w.e thats what you get from trusting some one right? anyway

picked up a full s13 blacktop swap from my friend prolly used for less than 1 month he never got it running right ( we were still in high school i think it was just a wiring problem ) anyway got everything tranny/full motor/wiring harness ready to go just needed a turbo for 500! pretty much was rotting in his room for 4 years or so

I am currently in a engine building class at my school elgin community college






Today me and eric got started in tearing down the new sr I got for next season aside from there being A LOT of RTV and random bolts used and the broken timing chain cover the engine overall looks GREAT. Im pretty happy about it cyl walls look great the head looks fantastic. Im happy about the engine building class my teacher Mr. Norden is a great guy and knows his stuff. I cant wait to keep on building this but from the looks of it im going to need the right bolts for the most part im still re-searching on what cams and turbo I want to run next season

here's the block it self took off all the accessories and what not pretty clean







valve cover off the cyl head is pretty clean took off the cam caps and everything looks good and in order





Rocker arm's are off and as u can see the head is great and nice!! Cams off and shims are off I dropped one of the shims and I think its in the oil pan lol taking that off tomorrow









I LOVE THIS THING!! KEEPS EVERYTHING NICE AND ORGANIZED!!




I tried to get a good angle but the cyl walls look great no scoring or anything pretty happy about it

Kinda got a lot of work done today had couple of demo's from the teacher that I already know. But had to kind wasted a hours time for the tear down but whatever got lower oil pan off and the upper oil pan the previous owner used a lot and I mean A LOT of RTV there was a freaking mountain of it I got a picture of it. I found a piece of metal idk what it is till I get to the block it self and tearing that apart but on to the pics





The lower oil pan bolt removal sequence inward to out ward starting in the middle towards the back of the engine, Here you can see that there is a lot of RTV used and we found sludge in the lower oil pan -.- and a piece of metal idk what it was or where its from but I will find out soon

upper oil pan off and the baffle plate is also off u can see more sludge and RTV EVERYWHERE mountains of it there is a bolt sequence on how to take off the lower oil pan also its outward bolts to in ward in pairs

Got most of the rtv off from the block and the upper oil pan started running out of time tomorrow taking off the harmonic balancer and the timing chain cover and timing chain



Everything nice and separated and labeled



Eric went to town on the upper oil pan in the solvent tank lol

i miss shop class, the lifts,tools and parts cleaner bin and the bead blaster. take full advantage of it while you can. i assembled my 1st block in shop class an old ca18 and 22re. the one thing i kept with me is keeping my work area clean as fuck and keeping all my tools in order, cleaning up after any kind of job and cleaning tools. it also help when you are OCD about neatness anyways.

update today well kinda I suppose? got a lot done took the timing chain cover off. I need a new one because it was broken when I got it. Harmonic balancer is off, valves, springs, retainers, oil seals, lashers are all out. Cleaned the head super freaking clean and parts labeled neatly =] dones anyone know the BEST way to get rtv out in little crevices ?





As you can see here the timing chain cover is off and SURPRISE a lot more RTV!



Upper and lower oil pan, oil pick up, and both upper and lower baffle plates scrubbed down in the solvent tank pretty clean just gotta get that rtv out







Upper oil pan cleaned and put in a hot bath (forgot what the machine is called sprays hot solvent on it and cleans it) still gotta get that damn rtv out but idk if it matters.











THIS VALVE REMOVER IS AWESOME!!!!! I love it had some trouble using it because I was not paying attention in class when my teacher was doing a demo on it -.- LOL all the valves, retainers, keepers, springs are off!! the valve seat looks to be in good shape gonna be measuring the valves and the seat tomorrow to see if the valves are still good to use MIGHT upgrade but cash is running tight









THIS TRAY IS AMAZING! keeps everything nice and organizes. Theres some carbon build up on the exhaust valves not so much on the intake valves, oil seals on the lashers are done gotta buy new ones, lashers look good gonna re use them



The head with nothing on it but the freeze plugs and valve guides kinda dirty







Thats okay!! we can clean it! used almost a whole can of degrease why? cuz I can and its free lol let it soak for about 5 mins then got the power washer out! sprayed the shit out of it. Turned out pretty good and clean tomorrow gonna use that machine again forgot what its called to make it nice and clean and ready!!

way ahead of you derek =] my buddy has a vender account with arp and acl so im getting all the thrust/main/rod bearings from acl and arp rod/main/head studs

yeah i know i have a little less than a year left -.- breaks is my next class gonna do a 300zx upgrade or something like that if the car runs by then LOL but having all the tools/machines/lifts what not to my disposal is awesome

So friday I had a good solid 2 hours to work on the head getting it ready or the new step 2 264 brian crower cams and brian crower ti valve springs and retainers check it out so clean prolly going to paint the out side hi temp silver make it cleaner

heres kind of a before shot after I took it out side and hosed it down





After shots I was working the head with the fine hair wire brush attachment in a drill then used small wire brushes the exhaust ports were a bitch to clean and get in too







after all of that I took it to the solvent tank for more cleaning and de greasing and stuff then I risned it out with water then I stuck it in this thing I forgot to ask again what its called but it was in my previous post like a 200 degree bath of solvent to clean stuff out and put a protective coating like a huge oven with hot ass water if anyone knows the name tell me haha ill ask on monday





Had to wait 30 mins so me and eric cleaned up the valves before and after side by side. Gonna mic them monday see if I can even re use them if not gotta buy a new set

This build makes me sad and happy at the same time. I thought I was going just for a stock re build but I said fuck it and get better parts now im broke as a joke im sure a lot of people are who owns these kind's of cars and motors thats it for now

That hood is made by karmotion btw, I have the same hood.

I would just rebuild the essentials. New main/rod/thrust bearings. Maybe a fresh cylinder hone with new pistons rings. And new valve stem guides. I would built it 100% stock (exception to upgraded bearings/bolts). And have a 100% great running motor. You have things at your diaposal most people dream about having.I would make it simple and do it right. Nice work by the with doing it yourself. (I think the word your looking for is "hot tanking on the hot "bath"

the motor is actually almost done just waiting for the bearings and arp stuff i just didnt want to copy and paste the whole build from my blog to here but its a mild build did a 3 angle seat and a 45 degree on the valve it self i got bc 264 int.ex cams on it also bc valve springs ti retainers going with a stock bottom end new rings for sure getting a good deal from a buddy of mine for his gt2871r

yeah not sure if i wanna get forged pistons but if im gonna be beating it which i am i should haha rings are about 115 new and forged pistons and rings are around 400 new here on zilvia so for 300 more haha

Did some lecture in class and learned how to do 45 degree valve face cut it was pretty damn easy

Grinded down the tip and made a 45 degree chamfer on this machine since it makes PERFECT chamfers

Wanted to check the difference of the lift on the stock and bc cams big ass difference

So the nextweek I got sick then my classmate eric worked on the head with out me we were doing 3 angle seat jobs a 30 degree 45 degree and a 60 degree. Anyway some dick took the stone that eric was using and switched it with a smaller 45 degree stone so pretty much pitted one of the seats. Sent it to napa by my school they got a machine shop they are now replacing the seat should be done HOPEFULLY tomorrow or latest Monday sigh.... cant keep on grinding it down because it would be too much metal so I said FUCK IT and just replace the seat OH and napa is doing it for free






So today MAILMANNNN again my Brian crower springs and titanium retainers came in wommpppp




Side by side with my cams after the seats are done everything will be back together and work on the block

Tomorrow gonna be finishing the head if the head is done if not gonna be taking out the pistons n what not

oh hahaha i know!!! i love my teacher hes so cool and he knows his shit anyway i go to a community college its called elgin community college i was gonna go to UTI but i mean 3 weeks to learn like 4 months of material? why even bother and 30 grand vs like half or less of that and i learn more and more in depth stuff im pretty OCD about this motor i wanna hit a RELIABLE 360ish so everything is double checked also cleaned like the block later on i de-grease it then power wash it then hot tank it then wash it again im pretty sure if anyone builds a motor and they invest so much in to it they would be anal also

Ya I agree, automotive school are a rip off. I left LT after 4 months. And managed to learn how to change oil lol.


And trust me I completely understand. I just had my block fully blueprinted and everything was done with perfection. And it shows man. I see so many builds out here that barely start, smoke, choke and die eventually. Nice to see detailed work being done.

looks good! glad to see you're taking the time to do it right. i wish you would have went with better cams though they're valve springs/retainers actually did pretty well in an independent test. but from experience they're cams are not the greatest.

To be honest man I know I wanted to get hks or pon cams but I did a little bit of reading the cams are a hit or a miss I measured the lobes they seem even throughout if not worse thing ill need is to degree it with adjustable cam gears either than that hope I get a good batch

yeah you hit the nail on the head, just make sure you degree them on install. I made the mistake of installing them with out back when they were claiming they were plug and play. lol, not the case.

I read the cam card just put the cam shafts at 0 degrees for a.drop in but I think I'm getting cam gears anyway

I know my tuner had an issue with BC cams, I cant remember what it was, but he resolved it on his shops fully built k24

pistons were all good measured and in spec

freezeeeee plugs taken out for new ones

cleaned the block again! tomorrow gonna be measuring the crank n what not so I can order the bearings

Comparison cleaned my pistons n obviously the old dirty ones nice n squeaky clean





tossed the block in the washer



and after pretty happy with it gonna paint the outside high temp silver to match





measured the bore with a dial bore gauge everything turned out perfect




celebrate with ramen sooo good also got the new issue of drifting tengoku and option 2



last 2 weeks of class i still have to get my
