Hi, i have converted a bicycle into fixed gear for the purpose of cardio workouts and shredding weight. I do not ride it to go to anywhere in particular.. nor do I have the baddest bike or high dollar parts on it/cool colors and graphics. I just dp laps around the neighborhood. I am up to 10 miles a ride a few times a week. Great work out that forces you to not coast and tire out, since you have to continually pedal through it.. I believe this also helps build up endurance. If you do not like it, don't enter this thread.

I ride everything. Dirt jumpers, mountain bikes, cyclocross, everything in between. Fixed gear road bikes are actually pretty fun to rip around the city in, and help you build skills/muscles/endurance that transfer over to all types of riding. You would be surprised how much more fluid you are riding other types of bikes after riding fixed gear. Its sad that all you people who are just now being introduced to these bikes automatically run with the hipster idea. If you stopped being so damn judgemental you might actually have fun on one. Most of you loser probably dont even ride anyways.

I dont know why there is so much animosity between BMX and FIXIE people. EVERY sub-culture, wheather it be in cars or bikes, has their own fair share of D-BAGS in them. I will agree that there are Hipster D-Bags in the FIXIE scene but there are just as many BRO D-Bags in the BMX scene. Hipster Fixie riders drink PBR, and Extreme BMX riders drink monsters brah. There are diffrences, but deep down inside we are all the same: we like pedaling metal frames with 2 wheels. Cant we just all get along?
That being said i own a park Specialized fuse 3 and a mint 80s Univega NuovoSport (yea i kno its not fixed blah blah blah) i like riding bikes... bikes are fun, you guys are aruging over dumb stuff, just go out and RIDE YOUR F***ING BIKES! Since this is the FIXIE thread time to get back on topic: if this bike had the Brooks perf brown leather handle wrap it would be perfect, bare handle bars is kinda wack Vintage Pista, peep the OG Campagnolo brakes and other oldschool parts: http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/84-bianchi-pista-2056

My free rollers have helped me spin faster without bouncing so much, but i still have no idea how fast i go. I think around 27mph to 32 mph. Quote:
But on a fixed gear. Its just as gnarly, just maybe a little slower. But constant spinning at the max speed your legs go and trying to beak and skid with your legs is pretty hard. And you cant lean into turns with a fixed gear cause you will pedal strike and go down. Plus, i like to bomb the Griffith Observatory road at night when its closed, with no lights and no brakes missed a coyote by about 6 feet a couple weeks ago, lol. Need to ride more, been working and smoking a lot lately |
