Reversing a Auto to 5 spd swap: Help me make a checklist...
Hey, everybody-
Long story made short: • '93 S13 convertible, originally an automatic, previous owner swapped it to a 5 speed setup. Kept original auto brake pedal, and left wiring intact (jumpered the reverse lights, etc.). Still has auto ECU in it, thank God. • I re-do the car over 2 year period, and my retired parents buy it to be used as a fun car to be kept at their beach house in SC. They need it to be automatic again. • We have purchased a rebuilt automatic trans for the car, along with a new torque converter. In addition to those two items, here are things I *think* I need to acquire: 1. Front half of auto driveshaft 2. Auto shifter and linkage, shifter surround 3. Auto flexplate with shorter bolts (correct?) 4. Pilot bearing for automatic (correct?) This is where you can chime in and help me make sure I have everything needed to do this swap that is the reverse of what everybody else does. Do you see any "little things" that I may be forgetting? If so, kindly list them and I'll make note of it. One solution is for me to buy a local S13 coupe that has a blown engine in it, and pirate all the pieces needed from that. I am strongly considering this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am of the opinion that raping that already automatic car would probably be your best bet, that way you won't miss anything with a checklist.

I'm with Phlip here - your checklist looks good from where I'm sitting, but you only have to be missing a couple things to feel really bad about not spending that few hundred dollars on the beater to have all the parts.
Also, that'd give you the option of swapping in the 5spd tranny you have now into the coupe and selling it for quite a bit more

I am considering making the beater car (once finished with the trans stuff) a quarter-mile bomber of some sort. Get the engine rebuilt (basics, with some forged pistons in it), add the turbo setup I have ready to in my garage (T3, 550s, Z32 MAF, ECU) and see just how quick we can make it at the dragstrip.
It would kill two birds with one stone; 1. Auto parts needed for swap and 2. I get to make a beater drag car that should be a hoot to play with.
