Radar guns and getting pulled
Well the uneducated here needs some help. I have a friend who got pulled the other day. Now they were going down the road and the cop was coming down the road in the other direction. The cop then pulls them and says they were doing 80 in a 55...I thought radar guns didn't work if the cop was moving...how does it not distort your speed if he's coming at you at 55mph? If the gun sends a signal out and he's coming in your direction wouldn't that make your speed faster than what you were doing? I have no idea here so I was wondering if any of y'all knew. Thanks! (and oh yeah, this isn't a cop bashing thread, I just want to know how this all works)

Well I know that more experienced cops can pull you over without radar. I am pretty sure the car has to be stationary to get a correct reading.
i don't know how he clocked you while moving, unless he subtracted his speed from what your friends speed was, cuz according to physics (If i still remember) if your both going 50 in opposing directions, it would clock you at 100 mph. So he might be able to just do some math, but your friend will have to go to court, and there you could probably find out for sure, and unless cops are aloud to do that, your friend should go free.

See that's the thing I don't know, he was coming towards my friend on the highway and said he clocked them doing 80 in a 55...which means his car was probably moving at 55 or 60 also so I don't see how his radar could be accurate if his car is moving towards the car he is gunning.

I had the same problem, with one of my friends and his Teg. We were going about 50 in a 45 and the cop pulled us over for going 75. Even though minivans were speeding past us. He also wrote him up for illegal stuff. But there are some radar guns that plug into the car and calculate your speed and their speed in some big equation. But he didnt have that radar gun. So my friend contested it and won. So first ask what the calibration and all the whoohoo was of the gun. BTW how fast were you going?

it's called the "Doppler Effect", some radar guns that are mounted to the car can calculate your speed by using the speed of the car that it's mounted in to calculate your speed. That's the simplified answer.

im a genius on this, dont worry. my sister had to do a couple of ridealongs with a statie for this class she was taking, and she said that he pulled over mad people like that. like thats the only way the radar works is if you are going towards the cop. if he is going the same way as you, he can only pace you. but if hes comin at you, or has a speed trap set up, he can accurately get ur speed.

$300 will get you a good detector/scrambler... Make shure the one you get works on laser and radar. Just make shure they are legal in your state. I can't remeber where to find them on the web. Ill post back if I find a site that sells em. I had one a while back and it always kept me safe. Don't ask me why I don't have it now...
Radar/Laser guns take the speed of the cop car into its calculation of your speed. Next time you get pulled over and know you were not speeding ask to see the speed sig on the gun. It should also have a time sig as to when the cop clocked you. If you were pulled over at 8:00pm and the gun says 5:15pm... Bye Bye ticket! If the gun has no time sig then it is an old obsolete model, bring this up in court. Also if the cop doesn't want to show you the sig, he has to. It is the only way he can prove that you were speeding so he must show you that evidence. There are also tons of point with surrounding traffic and whatnot. Tickets are easy to get out of... You just have to know the system! Good Luck

buy a valentine one, hardwire it to your fuse box. if they pull you over they will shine the flashlight on the windshield and check for suction cup marks or a cord in your lighter spot, valentine has a visor clip that you can just clip off and thow under your seat,
its illegal here in va to have them, but its not a very expensive ticket , if it goes down to it, sometimes they take the radar detector, so go buy a really cheap pos to have in in your glove box incase they do search, then you dont get your 400 dollar scanner taken, but with so much traffic around the area, its not likely they will be able to pick you out that your the car with the detector good luck

I'm with Mr. Rogers. **** the Censorship thing. And **** the police.
You know thinking about it, all three of those things have sh*tloads of things in common. Like one big cluster Fu*k. I heard it's all about the Valentine One though. World's better compared to almost all others. P.S. Sorry I flipped this into a cop bashing bit. well. . . not really. |
