red top sr20 striped head bolts
has anyone came across this issue? im stumped as to removing this. heard a of a easy out tool to take it out but dont think this a good application for this and trying to drill it and pull it out is risky. any info, help, or a shop that can help with this is appreciative in the OC area thank.

Im w/ frankg ...Drill and tap L hand thread..ise a center drill first, then follow w/ appropriate drill and tap..u need a lot of holding power, so a extractor would not do the job

^agreed. Head bolts are located under the cams. I've never tried to remove these as I never had a reason to. But definitely not holding head to the block.

that is a casting plug. 99 out of 100 times, they don't come out. if it does, it will need heat and other encouragement. No easy out is going to work there. Keep messing with it and you could have a head that's no good.

First time taking apart a sr20 head. Tried lolking this up for awhile and couldnt find anu info on it so i resortrd to here. everyone has there clueless or stumped moments. Assumed this was holding the head to the block. Now knowing this is a casting plug and has no purpose for what I'm doing ill leave it alone. Thanks.

Don't forget the FOUR 10mm bolts that are around the head on the corners of the exhaust side and also the 2 bolts on the front cover as well. Head should lift right off. Never had an issue with a head stuck.
