V-Hate!!! 1uz-fe v8 / z33 6 speed s14 build
I picked up my s14 about 2 years ago after parting out my s13 project. I had to fix a few bugs with the car from the previous owner and I also immediately added suspension/lsd/aero/wheels/etc.. to get it on the track. I got to drift the car a few times before the sr20 died from bearing failure.
some old pics before the swap First day with the s14 After fixing some electrical bugs I added some aero/suspension/wheels Did some driving Painted my aero and got more cool wheels Did a few more drift events than my sr20 died Bearings After the sr20 died I did some research on a new power plant for the car. I wanted something alittle different than every one else but I also wanted it to be reliable so I wasnt always breaking down at the track. I finally decided on a 1uz-fe 4.0 DOHC v8 from the lexus ls400/sc400. On paper the 1uz is awesome! It won tons of awards for reliability and its design and it also has racing heritage with toyota in Indy racing and TRD's baja trucks ran them in the early-mid 90's. Its all aluminum 90 Deg V8 has 250HP 260TQ stock, makes power between 1000 RPM and 7000 RPM and revs to 9000 RPM. 6 bolt forged mains, forged crank, forged sintered rods, cast hyperutenic pistons and balanced within 5 grams all from the factory etc... Now for the CONS about the engine lol. The 1uz never had a manual transmission behind it in a production car. So adapating to a manual is a must. There is also pretty much no aftermarket for this motor in the USA yet so modding the 1uz is NOT a bolt on affair. I picked up a 92 ls400 front sump motor for $400 from the J-yard with wiring/ecu/etc.. I was also able to score a 6 speed trans from a Z33 for $350 Now its time to make this toyota v8 have a nissan trans. I picked up a z33 trans adapter plate from swap1uz.com I also got a flywheel designed for the 1uz swap from lextreme.com You could re-drill a 3sgte mr2 turbo flywheel to work but after hearing a few horror stories i decided to just get the one made for the 1uz. Also a pilot bearing adapter was needed from swap1uz.com and flywheel hardware was ARP for an ae86/4age Also starter bolts need to be trimmed down to clear adapter plate Next up was the clutch set up. For this I chose a ACT 6 puck disc designed for the sr20det. The disc fits the MR2 style flywheel perfect and will have the correct spline count needed for the nissan trans. For the pressure plate it is a ACT Heavy duty for a 3sgte mr2 turbo. Now for the shitty part. lol To compensate for the trans adapter plate you will need to remove the trans bell housing and have it machined down the thickness of the adapter plate(5/8) so the trans imput shaft mates perfectly. after machining Also 1/2 inch needed to be added to the throw out bearing all mated up Cleaned up the wiring harness. Removed all unused sensors from the aut trans traction control Picked up some headers from a 2uz-fe 4.7 L tundra. All 1/2/3uz exhaust ports and bolt paterns are the same. test fit in my homies s14 Now making them fit the car. The passenger side fits great once you cut off the bottom flange. The drivers side is a different story. The 240sx steering shaft will hit right into the start of the 4th exhaust runner. I had to completely redo the drivers side header to make it fit correctly. dont mind my newb welding Getting ready to put it in Motor is in! Now that the motor was in I had to shorten and modify the Z trans shifter for it went way past the s14 shifter hole even after 4iches of shifter was removed it was still allitle to long. Oh well!

Installed POS ebay short shifter and also installed a shaftmasters driveshaft meant for a vq35de swap with my length measurement.
Freshened up the valve covers and intake manifold Also started installing new NGK plug wires Ignition and engine harness complete and engine covers freshed up and installed Next up was relocating the engine bay fuse box and cleaning up the chasis harness New wiring out to headlights/horn/electric fans engine bay wiring completed Engine bay fuse box and ecu relocated in place of passenger side air bag. With dash And here is where I am currently with the car. All thats needed to start the motor is make a Y-pipe/intake and also relocate the battery to the trunk.

That powerplant looks good in that engine bay...definitely seems like one of the more involved S-chassis swaps I've seen. It's looking pretty damn sweet so far though!

Thanks for all the kind words! I appreciate it! My power goals with this motor set up is to eventually hit 400rwhp using a vortech V2 supercharger we have laying around and low boost 5-7psi. For now I just want to get it running and driving N/A for a bit and work all the bugs out before rushing to boost it. As for the swap being very (involved) it is only because of my trans choice. If you were to use a ka24/sr20/r154/w58 it wouldnt be as bad. Most of the fabrication and hard stuff was z33 trans related. lol

So I assume with this one it needs a 3sgte pressure plate and clutch disc? That's a Damn good deal.. |

Some updates... After trying to start the car for the first time last weekend I realized that I wasnt getting any spark. After going through all the wiring/sensors/coils/ignitors/etc.. for a few days with the multimeter I narrowed it down to the ecu. I Gave my buddies ecu a try and boom! She was sparking! lol
first start Now after a weeks delay from the ecu the rest of the car can finally come together. More updates to come! Few more pics

I was hoping you were gonna have better wheels to match the better engine, but damn that is a big improvement, lol.

Some updates on the build. After I got the car running I went to finish the exhaust system and make a Y-pipe to connect to a s14 exhaust.
In the process of making the Y-pipe under the car I bumped my fuel lines and from age and corrosion they literally just crumbled apart causing a major fuel leak. I decided to replace the factory 5/16 fuel line with some stainless braided -6AN from the pump to the fuel rail and also the return so I dont have to worry about old lines leaking and also better re-routing under the car to keep it from exhaust heat. Jegs! Modifiying the factory fuel sender unit with -6 bulkheads. Installed some fittings.. New fuel system should be completely installed this week. Some more vids and updates to come very soon. Also picked up some new goodies I plan on installing this late fall/winter. haltech sprint 500 Lextreme fish bracket for a vortech V2 supercharger

Some updates....
I finished installing the new fuel lines and also installed the Y-pipe. After the exhaust and fuel system was installed the car didnt want to start anymore because of a random no spark issue. Turned out that the Crank angle sensor took a crap. Replaced the sensor and she is finally running good First drive Put the interior back together I last minute decided to take it to the last drift event at Clubloose before she had to sit all winter. I Had tons of non motor related problems with the car but still had some fun. Motor runs great and feels really snappy and responsive! Sounds neat also More mods and updates to come!
