Seeing how I never seen the watchmen novel I cant say it was right on or not. But from my stand point it was a good movie non the less. Iv also heard that G.I. Joe was way off the novel as well.

obviously with any literary adaptation to film, you have consider the limitations. There's only so much you can squeeze into a 3hr (or even 6hr) slot. This is partially why almost always a book is better than it's cinematic adaptation. Personally, I think Zach Snyder did well considering what he had to work with. The story was condensed, but not in a way that failed to convey the plot. Character development wasn't as polished, nor had the depth of the comic. But still, again considering the limitations, it was pulled off well. Lots of the film choreograpahy was based directly on the comic. It sure as hell isn't an easy film to make. Tbh - Watchmen (or any longer comic/literary work) would probably work better with a TV series. TV isn't constricted by a 3hr duration. This is why, to some extent, why TV is in some ways even more enjoyable than film. but that is another can of worms. |

500 Days of Summer was good. District 9 was good. And the Hangover was funny.
Still need to watch Avatar though.

Snyder was given a tough project, sure. but that's not an excuse for delivering a product with two dimensional characters and unexplained motives. i'm not saying he didn't do well with what he was given. i'm saying the movie should never have been made.

A lot of stuff out there (books or comics) probably shouldn't have been made for film.
some cinematic adaptations are better than others though. once in a rare while when filmakers can pull it off, it is damn impressive though. |

You are the only person here who thinks so. Probably the only person in the world who thinks so, besides right wing wackos. By the way, I'm super conservative. Did you even see the movie?

Really though, acting was superb and the story, though semi generic, was different enough that it kept my attention throughout the long, long movie. Bad pacing? Yeah right, unless you thing being absolutely blown away by a movie for nearly three hours is bad pacing. |

gonna watch a couple i missed this year:
edit: just watched Moon. it's easily top 5 for 2009 material. awesome psychological thriller with some light scifi. i cannot believe Sony didn't think this was worth a wide release. for the unfortunate many of you who do not have access to a screener, this movie will be in stores in about two weeks. i'll be buying it on blu ray for sure.
