the stock hatch sunroofs SUCK once the outer seal starts leaking.. why? like everyone has said the drain tubes end basically in your rocker.
PLUG the front two, they're worthless and just cause rust. butyl window weld is an easy plug... just cram some in there. for the rear two, yank out the hoses and re-route them somewhere other than your rockers. i crammed them through my rear seat wheel well seatbelt bolt holes (no rear seats)... they drain nice now to the OP, dont go aftermarket. what happens if you break a part? i wouldnt want to have to rely on an aftermarket supplier to make replacement parts. at least with oem nissan parts are always available. In a few years when your model sunroof is discontinued and you need a part for it you're going to be pissed. plus aftermarket sunroofs dont sit as flush with the roof and look ghettoer.... listen to everyone who hates on sunroofs and dont bother, unless you're going to waste mucho $$ and do a full roof skin swap with all oem parts

Now a strange thing has happened in the 240 world of late. The trend has swung away from non sunroof cars to sunroof cars. It used to be everyone was looking for a non sunroof car due to stuff that has already been stated in this thread. Now all the kids want their joint to have a sunroof so they can look cool with it popped. LOL Sorry guys had to say that. LOL Anyways a Sunroof car with cage will be just as stiff as a non sunroof car. Hence why some people do not care if their track car has a sunroof or not. Its all a matter of preference at this point. I like coupes with power sunroofs. A lot of taller people do not like coupes with Power sunroof, because it severely limits height clearance for them. With pop ups its not to much of an issue, of course coupes with pop ups are kinda rare. Wow all this talk of Coupes and I prefer Fastbacks. Oh and a Fastback with a power sunroof would have been the shiznit. LOL

if you're gonna go through all the trouble of cutting holes in your roof, i say make a targa/t-top 240sx. then sit back and let the (1980's) girls come to you.

mine have them, and im pretty sure they are metal The quarter panel ones are possible to reach, just really really hard but it's something you would do when cutting everything to add a sunroof edit: I'm with drift freaq - i prefer a sunroof. Not because of the type-x bullshit - cause i had my car before i liked type-x, but because it's so much better In the winter i don't need to blast the defogger, just pop the sunroof open. In the summer i don't get hot as shit and i don't need to leave the window open and be suffocated by rushing wind I love the sun that comes in through that light, i love being able to have a choice between taking it off and having awesome refreshing air flow into my car. And i love how i can sit in winter with my coat on in my car and drive with a gorgeous breeze of crisp winter air blowing through my car and i don't get hot nor do i get cold. Only complaint is 1, i can't leave it open all the time cause its so easy to open from the outside, so my car gets so hot if i dont crack the window, and 2. it flutters and whistles in the wind @ higher speed My shit doesn't leak, and when it does ill fix it. I'm not a pussy who complains about a little water and can't fix it. Oh and cleaning the front two drain pipes with a thin pipe-snake and some drain cleaner works wonders, it won't rust if its not backed up tl;dr - sunroofs own and anyone who says differently is jealous

i spent a shitload at the body shop having the fucking sunroof DELETED, and now someone's gonna say "yeah man i want a sunroof" - what the fuck. if only my car had no sunroof, i'de be so fucking happy. so your car has no sunroof, which means its structurally more rigid. now what happens? do you go through the trouble of putting the OEM style sunroof, having it welded onto your chassis with the drain tubes? no, thats too expensive. instead, you pay some shitty ass company to sawzall open your roof, then sandwhich a nasty ass aftermarket piece onto your roof. these companies are rarely in business for long, so good luck finding seals or replacement hinges. with aftermarket, you get the luxury of wind noise, water leakage, and rattling lever. when you remove the glass there is wind noise as you need a wind blocker. bottom line, if you're serious about it, get a 240 with a sunroof. otherwise, dont fucking do it. take my advice - i know. |

I just bought a new coupe shell 3 days ago because it had no sunroof. Old coupe was rusted bad at the rockers, thank you sunroof drip tubes!
Im swapping over full harness [shell is stripped completely] drivetrain, all suspension, all interior [nothing not even the dash bar] put my 5 lug on there... Thats how much I hate the damn things. So yeah I never thought I would see this kind of a question. Fuck the sunroof idea and appreciate your base model!

it would be worth your time to just find one that has an oem sunroof. my hatch has one and it makes no noise with the latch shut all the way and i have no water leaking problems. it was pretty annoying to not have the cover for forever, but i finally got one. cover on in the winter and majority of the summer, glass off and in the hatch when its awesome out. on a side note, i got some parts from a kid with a hatch that had a power sunroof. looked like garbage. im assuming it was a dealer thing? or somebody decided they wanted it. regardless, it had rained the day before and the whole inside of the car was soaked.

Now this is funny as anyone that knows me, knows I have been crazy about SE no sunroofs for years. Yes I have a 91 Fastback without a Sunroof with power windows.
Now when it comes to coupes I love the power sunroof. I guess I should have mentioned the only sunroof I really like is the power ones. Oh and yes a power one on a Fastback would be dope. Though somewhat impossible to do due to the shortness roof section. The pop ups on the Fastback seem to always whistle or leak and without a cage the chassis makes noise going up driveways due to flex. LOL

I always liked my sunroof back in like 99 when i first got it. Hell, I had to break into my car that way...hand is skinny and long enough to do it. Wish my s14 had it. I would like a convertible as well... wishful thinking. I'll get one some day If thats what you want do it. just research into it more. seee what DIY you can do for drian tubes, seals, etc. Good luck.

TLDR: Buy a shell with a sun roof. Not enough slicktops to be hacking up because you can't find one of the bountiful sunroof chassis out there.
EDIT: But its your car, do what you will with it. |

My first S13 had a manual sunroof. I miss it.
Besides, the sunroof latch acts as a perfect pen holder. Gets rid of the whistling, too. |

I like how everyone says 180SX's with the moonroofs are structurally less rigid than non-moonroof ones.. In actuality they're pretty equivalent. Ever remove the headliner and take a look at all the extra bracing around the moonroof area? I'd almost say my 180SX with a moonroof is MORE structurally rigid since mine rarely flexes, creaks or pops.
