My car smells like gas usually every time I get in car. Also my car idles at 1000 and will go down and up constantly between 1000 and 500 is it my fuel pump or fuel line????

Might want to replace the fuel pump gasket and check your lines for the smell. The idle, I unno.

Is it normal to idle like that. I have never owned an Sr20 until about a couple weeks ago. I have a blacktop

Check codes on ecu and go from there. No point guessing on what it could be, wastes time and money if you throw parts on it without knowing the culprit.

Look here on how to pull codes.

Make sure you have driven the car around a bit prior to pulling codes, I once pulled codes and got a 55, but I had forgotten that I unplugged battery before actually driving around, so it didn't have any codes stored.

Ok check the fuel pump area and see if the smell is coming from there..if so there's a o-ring gasket that has corroded.also if that doesn't work hook up a fuel pressure gauge from after the fuel filter and the fuel rail.also do you have a wideband gauge?

Also as for the idle stuff do a full tune up and then check back with us.no point in trying to diagnose something without doin basic maintenance.

More than likely its the fuel pump o-ring that is no good anymore causing the car to smell like gasoline. Easy fix!

In addition to the o ring, check the fuel pump lines for any leaks. I recently replaced my hoses cuz one of them had a few cracks and was dripping gas (very dangerous obviously). I found this out cuz I have a remote start on my car and i noticed a pool underneath my car one day, I got under and noticed my tank was soaked cuz of the damn hoses.
