any more CA18 info Lance?
I've been surfing around the internet and it's very difficult to find any compilation of GOOD CA18 info. most of it is just bickering about the CA18 vs. SR20.. info on interchangeable parts and good mods would be cule. this was sorta useful: More CA18 stuff

Thats because it links to the old forums, which appear to be gone <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Damnit, I wish I had copied the info into FAQ. West, is there any way to get that back? It was a very large amount of good info <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I'd like to correct some errors in that thread.
The SR20DET is not "oversquare" - it is 86mm x 86mm - square. The CA18DET, on the other hand, is 83mm x 83.5mm - "oversquare" by that article but "undersquare" in typical American terms. The stroke is still physically shorter, though, and the SR does suffer from a relatively poor rod:stroke ratio. It's not a truck engine by any means, though, even less so than the KA. All CA-series engines use timing belts... including the CA20E and CA18ET. They're not the same belt, though. A better source of CA18DET compatible pieces in the USA is the Pulsar NX SE's CA18DE or CA16DE. CA18DE timing belts should fit among other things. |
