Stuck between 2 cars!
Alright... I'm in need for a car fast, I've found 2 candidates... One of which I'm actually going to see tomorrow and intended to buy (300ZX NA). That was, until I found a Sil40 Coupe for the same price in very nice condition. Both are nice cars and I've noticed what I don't like about both.
Bads: 300ZX Front bumper is different color It's NA -_- High mileage on the chassis (300,xxx) Higher insurance than the 240 Sil40 No trunk key Air intake leak the guy says... So a vacuum leak of some sort? Oil leak The Sil front is missing the left amber turn signal Here are the cars... 1990 300zx sale/trade 3500 obo 1989 240sx coupe Advice on which I should get? |

Well they are both going for the same price... The 240 would be a TON easier to work on, although the Z has a 30,xxx mile motor and it's most likely in better condition than the KA24 that's at 146,xxx. Kinda of a dilemma.

I mean cheaper to maintain.
Clearly you have never worked on a Z. The engine bay is not really mechanic friendly. If you have little mechanical experience and funds Id go with the S13 You can find KA's like penny's on the streets and can swap an engine in a day.

I don't trust people so unless the guy can prove otherwise, I'd assume that engine has 100k+ on the 300zx. I've also read too many horror stories about JDM engines to buy a car with a fresh swap. Why swap in an engine from Japanland just to turn around and sell the car? Why not pull a cheap running engine from a JY?

+1 for the S over the Z.
i have an s14 and a TT z32. the S is obviously going to be less expensive to fix & maintain. the z's engine bay is such a crammed bitch to work in/on. plus i wouldnt fuck with anything with that many miles.

AND it's going to be less to insure. I found out that the Z even being the NA model will be more expensive to insure than my LS1 Camaro. Wasn't too happy about that but man are those good looking cars. I feel like 240's are people's toys... which is why I am so skeptical to buy them. |

Any sporty car is someone's toy... Depends on your level of income. Just because you have enough money to have a camaro SS, M3 or 300zx TT doesn't mean you have the experience to do proper work on them (not saying you specifically). You want a car that hasn't been dogged out/tore up? Buy a stock camry. It's just the nature of the beast.

What's it worth to you? sil front, missing a corner lense? dohc swap thats leaking both oil and vacuum leak(s) and apparently missing bolts (WTF?)... To me, that car isnt worth more than $2k, and thats if there is no rust either... But then again I had patience and got a zenki s14 for about 2k.

2. Automatics aren't for me. Hell, an automatic 240 would get worse gas milage than my 6 Speed LS1 Camaro. That's pitiful. I'm going to be driving 40 miles a day for school plus however much I drive for work. Yes, I am picky about what I want. I don't want to spend money and not be happy. What fun would that be And as for your "funny" comment about me owning a ricey car in the future... Not a chance. Maybe a car that needs work... but not ricey! |

Fair enough... Auto 240sx's aren't bad on gas at all. And you could always do a 5spd swap... But you'd rather spend all your time and money fixing someone else's hacked up project. Good luck to you.

Well they aren't THAT bad... but put it like this, my 5.7L, 3600lb Camaro got 17 city 28 highway. That makes the KA look really bad lol. One day I'll find the 240 for me

You do realize that 300zx is going to get worse gas mileage right? What does the "94" in your SN mean? Is that the year you were born? That would explain a lot. Welcome to zilvia, please stick around and make a thread about the car you end up buying.

You had a ls camero and you were born in 94? if i were you i would talk down that guy with the auto 14 and do a 5spd swap and call it a day or just leave it auto. Ive seen that sil40 in person and its a overpriced pos, atleast with the auto you know it probaly hasnt been raped much.

Why do you need a bunch of strangers on the internet to choose a car for you????? I really dont understand people these days. I mean, I understand your probably still in high school, but you should still be able to make your own decision.. Plus, no one cares about your ls1 Camaro so stop mentioning and secretly bragging about it. If your looking for opinions, I say go back to your camaros and stop wasting bandwidth on our s and z chassis site... Just my 2cents, but your entitled to your own decisions.
