i dont even give that much props in putting a rotary in a car, its the size of a breadbox. i bet those silly motors have been "fab'd" into every car ever produced at least once.. They stoped making them for a reason, they get the gas milage of a big block towing three boats and make as much torque as a civic.
i think ausies like rotaries more than Puerto ricians..

now that Z with the LS motor in it, thats a swap

did you watch that video? he kicked the clutch like 10 times to get that motor to spool that turbo to spin those 20's...boo

RX7 chasis is lighter than 350z and i don't see the point of this swap.... you have mad power but you are still slow and unreliable.

ummm...you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about...you have never either driven or been inside a car with a rotary motor...and if you did...you would know that a 350 whp "properly tuned" rotary feels almost like a 500 whp piston motor...umm and lets not even talk about how responsive they are...and the torque thing

Putting a b20 in a z33 is dumb.

Should've put a LS series motor.

More power with reliability and it's cheaper.

Mmm. power,reliability, cheap.

Shit, I just picked all three with that option I put out compared to that overpriced swap.

oh, your telling me this information from expiernce right, or you must have read it somewhere on wiki that nevaland9 has never even smelled a rotary in his life...
just like this isnt my old man (cheif mechanic) standing next to the mazdeez canadian touring car (twin webber 13b i believe) which happend to place 3rd last season.

I can put money on the fact that a 2500lb car with 350whp from a rotary feels exactly the same as 350whp 2500lb piston car plus some torque. Id also put money on the fact that i dont say anything unless i have a pretty good idea of what im talking about. If you looking for throttle response ive got the cure, its called drive-by wire, welcome to 2008.

All i was stating is my opinion, i hate rotaries and always have..to breed such a strong hate for this wankel motor ive obviously had experience with them so please dont tell me how to think

I can personally attest to the fact that a 350rwhp rotary feels exactly the same as a 350rwhp 240.. We dyno'd my s14 and my buddies fd the same day on the same dyno.. My s14 w/s13 blacktop had more torque, and hp. but yet the rotary pulled harder. Sure, it had a little more lag.. but he was still creating power well beyond his 9800 rpm redline.. My sr redlined at 8400 rpm.. and stopped making power at 7900.. Riding in a 350rwhp rotary is what got me into building cars... If you havent experienced a rotary.. dont knock it till ya try it..(kinda like the redheaded chicks.. haha)

The English language does not posses the words for me to accurately describe my utter hatred for rotary engines.

This swap was stupid.

different strokes for different folks.
some like it, some dont. i know i cant change everyones opinion on it.

Over 200+hp in a small package.. the Rotary engine is actually banned from alot of forms of professional racing because of its power to weight.. it was banned from Le Mans after winning in 91, and that was the only year it was ran.. I can't imagine what the result would have been if they ran it a few more years.

I can understand that people dislike it because its not the best on fuel.. and unkept rotarys can blow up, but thats due to misjudgement of mods and neglect.

I run 87 octane in my fc.. rotarys where designed to run off dino oil and low octane fuel.. reduces the chances of carbon build up and detereration of the apex seals. Some people do run synthetic with no problems.

Regarding this Z, to me, its ok. Its the ART of Tuning that makes it beautiful. The application to make the car functional in an alternative way. Maybe they blew the VQ or got the car without a motor.

One of my cheap dream cars - get a cheap 70s era 911. Can be had under 10k.. Throw on a 930 widebody conversion, fuchs wheels.. there is a company that makes the tranny adapter to put a rotary on. put a 13bt motor on there. thats easily 200hp in a 70s 911.. Just bare minimum to get the conversion done.. then over time upgrade the turbo/ic, suspension etc.. easily a 930 killer for way less. And maintanence of this motor would be cheaper then the porsche engine.

I had a friend used to swear up and down that a ZO6 Corvette would be a better car if you pulled the LS7 and replaced it with a 20B.
I no longer talk to that guy.

As for rotaries... YES, the can be reliable... But a properly built 450whp rotary motor will NEVER be able to last as long as a properly built 450whp piston motor. Ever.
Sad, but true.

With that said, I'd love to have an FC TII with a rebuilt engine and all the reliablity mods. That'd be sweet.

no it didnt. see, thats what TORQUE means. it may have pulled LONGER, but if its making less tq AND hp than your sr, it didnt pull HARDER.

All these rotary haters are funny.

"BUT IT HAS NO TORQUE!!"

Torque doesn't accelerate cars. Horsepower does. You could have 10,000lb-ft of torque and still be slower than a 300hp civic, or rotary, or anything else. It's basic high school physics.

If you can't even grasp THAT, don't even BEGIN to talk about how rotaries are inferior for technical reason 1, 2, and 3.

haha, basic high school physics, and yet you still dont understand the concept of power under the curve. Sure a rotary can make 300hp/300lb and hit 9k, but what do you do when a v8 is making 300hp/350lb, only revving to 7k, but is able to make 250hp at 4k, when the rotary is making 100hp at 4k?

the twisting force of an engine is called torque, horsepower is derived as (as dumbed down as i can be) torque over time.
the HP figure is derived as the amount of torque over time.

P=TN/5250

1hp = 33,000lb-ft/min

hp for show, tq for go, learned, math blaster ftw

You mean to tell me that torque is not some arbitrary number that my engine just fucking makes? It can really be related to HP numbers?
You mean to tell me that if I was an independently-learned jackass self-proclaimed genius educated on the internet that I could search and find something to teach me what you just gave me an overview of?

Get the fuck out of here, are you gonna tell me the easter bunny ain't real next?

what i actually meant to say was:

rotories are the best engine ever they are small and always make a billion horsepower for 700,000 miles at a stretch, every car is better with a rotary, even 18 wheelers and F-16's

funny i see this thread.... i was coming home lastt nite, for once a gorgeous day in ny....on the belt parkway cruising in my Z.

see a small black car coming really fast, looked like a new model firebird since he had only the amber lower lights on... it was a black FD ....looked built u can tell suspension was stiff and tires were def rt615s and wide for the car... couldnt tell the rims.

anyway, there is a big loop from the van wyck exp to the belt pkwy goin east... he passes me and purposely lets off the gas so that i hear the BOV! LoL so I chase and take the inside of the loop, we were goin around 68-70ish on the turn, he was on the outside of the left turn loop and i let him go high and peek @ my front bumper, then let off the gas so he can realize I was BOOSTED! LoL.... i swear i saw the car almost spin out when he heard my BOV...
on to the belt pkwy, long 1.5 mile straight by JFK... definitely got him from behind, 3rd and 4th gear.... till he overreved and spit a 4 inch flame out of his exhaust! i effin slammed on my brakes def didnt want to burn my damn bumper!
we kept goin and i just passed him after 100mph...

back on topic... rotaries are cool engines and rev like there is no tomorrow... but that motor in my car would be a very stupid move.

oh and on the le mans thing, they were banned, but what they didnt say was the the engines used for those mazdas were heavier that some of the V8s being used, but they still banned them for being lighter. no lie.

Nana son. Wrong. Torque is a twisting force across a moment arm. HP is that force over a TIME. You need a time to measure acceleration. Look at the math before you speak man, acceleration can't be derived from a torque value. You need HP for that.

Too much ignorance here.

Seriously, look up the equations one time. Try to calculate the acceleration of a car using torque, gearing, and weight alone. You'll find you can't, because the equations all ask for time. You end up having to plug in RPM related stuff, and you get HP.

Supra Hunter, your car is raw as hell.
