Modified exhaust tickets.
Hey zilvia i have a question. I got pulled over in front of my house and was issued 2 citations. 1 for no current insurance and one for modified exhaust. The insurance one i can deal with because i have my info printed out but the exhaust thing is bothering me. I have a sr20 with 3 inch to 4 with no cats now here is where i worry. If i get another exhaust and throw it on and take it to a inspection station Will they make me pop the hood? If so am i fucked? will they take my car? those general questions. I live in Cali and lapd pulled me over so i have to take it to west la division. 1st ticket for modified exhaust so i must know asap

I got pulled over cuz my exhaust was to loud and I got a fix it tiket. I put a kind of silencer/ resonator on the tip to fix the problem. And wen I took it to inspection by the chp they seen I the part I changed and they didn't bother to go and look. I was kinda scared too cuz I didn't have a cataltic converter and I had headers n stuff on my ka. But I was safe. Then again it depends who inspects it or if they do try to pop ur head tell them that it was a muffler citation not a engine one. But as,long as they see ur muffler isnt modified ur good! Then u can go bak and put ur old one haha. Cuz when u go their expect u to fix the problem so their gonna be koo about it if they see that u did change it. Hope this helps

inspection station wont pop hood with out probable cause. Usually they just look outside and see you got stock exhaust back on, they will sign it off and go. I had several modified exhaust tickets and that how i handled it. Now i just run the stock exhaust or the Megan type 2 and have no issues of cops pulling me over.

I got an exhaust ticket on the way back to san diego, I got pulled over right before the 5 south from 152, and I plan on borrowing a stock exhaust and go to near station to have it signed off.

Exhaust tickets are stupid. I've had my sheepdog prof exhaust on both my S14s and i have never switched it out when getting it signed of by sheriffs or chp. Why? Let me explain
The ticket we all typically get is "modified exhaust" 27151 Quote:

What this means is, if you've retained your stock catalytic converter/headers/emissions crap than the only ticket they can really give you is a noise level violation as that is the only part of the code that is at the officers discretion and even that is supposed to be governed by the 95db provision. Over the last 11 or 12 years between both my s14s i've probably had 4 exhaust tickets and every single one of them was signed off later by an officer who actually knew the fucking vehicle code...they even commented on how nice the car sounded. Moral of the story, don't have a stupid loud straight pipe exhaust, drive like a normal person and you'll be fine. |

Actually you have 2 options weld or rivet. I went with a rivet....came home got a chisel and hammer and that was the end of that. The silencer is still there but at least I didn't ruin my N1 either for future sale or track use by making the silencer irremovable.

i say your next exhaust should be an apexi noir. its quite but still some rumble. i actually got an exhaust ticket for dual tip angle cut straight pipe pipe, then i bought an apexi noir, and the DA thought it was fine, i just showed him pics of before and after.

get a stock exhaust or a silencer and go up to ANY local cops to sign it out for you and you bring it to the city hall court or whatever and pay for your ticket. Thats what happen to me, i got a fixing ticket for a loud exhaust and brought my car to a school officer to sign it out for me haha. Goodluck!
EDIT: nevermind haha didnt see the post

I just put my stock exhaust back on, take it to the local police station. The cop usually asks to turn the car on so i do and its quiet as fuck. He proceeds to sign off the ticket haha

You guys need to stop running ricer N1 mufflers and pick up a canister type muffler. Paint it BBQ black and push the clutch in when you drive by cops. Golden.

i have been pulled over my exhaust several times and ive only been given a fix it ticket for my exhaust once. however, i dont remember having to go to an inspection station for it to be signed off. all i remember is... you just fix the part with the fix it ticket... in most our cases just put the stock exhaust back on and find any cop out on the street and have them sign it off. is there a new rule i dont know about where you go to an inspection place just for a damn exhaust fix it ticket?

Goya take it to the ref station to get it written off. It's $130 for them to do the decibel test and the do a visual from the exhaust manifold back so ur hood does get popped and they will take note of anything that shouldn't be there. Just my experience.
