be careful guys... i had a hood come down on my head while i was mounting an intercooler. center of the latch got me square in the top of my head. 240 hoods are not light. shit knocked me out cold and left a sweet pool of head blood in my driveway. emergency room visits are not fun.

Ya know what would really do this thread some good. Is someone who's actually completed the modification. I've long since cut my stops off but yet to spend the extra effort on a support mechanism.

Here are some idea's I've thought of.

a rendition on the Datsun 510 hood prop. There is a bracket with a slot that resembles a skewed candy cane on the hood. The torsion spring is only there to force the catch into the hook end of the slot. It effectively forces you to pull back on the prop rod to disengage the catch, preventing it from doing it on its own.

Then I've considered this idea. These are Q45 struts that I equipped on my Jeep Cherokee. The geometry allows you to use of a pretty stout strut rate but localize the force on the hinge. I question if this isn't an alternative to gas struts on a carbon hood; which is what I have to work around. The final length of the strut could also act as a "stop". I can't remove the factory stops on this as I would have to radically change the hinge.
