![]() Those who made their own solid engine mounts, do you have a problem with your rearview mirror rattling while accelerating/cruising after putting them on? I'm thinking of getting a mirror that attaches to the windshield hoping it would solve it, but wanted to see if anyone has done this already. or if they have other ideas.

Thats what makes solid mounts so cool. Vibrating EVERYTHING. Most people hate them.
But really, your mirror is going to shake no matter what. Mounting to the windshield won't help. |

The swivel joint on the mirror tends to become loose with age
that could also contribute to the shaking on a note: why do people feel the need to run solid mounts? |

the swivel gets super loose... there are a couple options buy a new one lift the mirror so that you can no longer use the "night time angle" option... meaning the bright ass lights behind you and night will just keep blinding you can that "angle" is the one you use 24/7 glue it (same problem as above) glue it and buy a blue tinted overlay/mirror (broadview) and that rubber thing.. i had mine and it sucked. If you fill it with 3/4 pennies it helps so much

I have stock mounts and ever since I did the SR swap, when driving at higher speeds my Rearview shakes out of place.. it sucks always having to adjust it.
I am aware the swivel gets old but is there any way to fix it without gluing?! |

Rubber or foam insulator on base and longer screws,
I also placed rubber expansion plugs in the firewall, as well as a solid rubber block screwed onto the firewall to see if it would absorb any energy resonated throughout the sheet metal, not sure if it helped since my rear view mirror only moved when it was really hot out, which is when the vibration was also at its least. That means its either greased or lubricated in some form. Must remove the lubrication. |

I did notice my swivel is very loose, but i felt it was the vibration in the arm part of the mirror that caused it. I guess one causes the other.
I didn't have to run solid mounts, just mine were really worn out so I just gave it a try rather than buy new ones. I don't mind the overall noise in the car except for this part. it's pretty violent. actually, if the rattle was constant, i might not mind it as much, but it comes and goes depending on the RPM. highway cruising at 3k doesn't make the noise. just constant shifting on local roads sound gets annoying. |

how come 240 people bitch about the vibration caused by poly mounts so damn much, yet they buy stiff ass bouncy coilovers? lurking honda-tech, i didnt hear as much bitching about the vibrations caused by stiff motor mounts.

But back to the OP, last thing you should be worried about your rear mirror. I had a buddy who's windshield rattled loose on solid aluminum mounts. ![]() |
