Power door locks just stopped working
Ok, my power door locks in my 97 Kouki just stopped working all of a sudden. They have functioned properly for the past year and a half. The other day when I was getting out of the car I hit the door lock switch twice and I heard a click from the driverside kick panel. After that the locks haven't worked. I know nothing about the locking system, what could this be?
Now, neither one of my door lock switches will lock or unlock my doors.

the door locks are controlled by relay's, and that's the click sound you were hearing. check the relay's by driver side foot panel, you should see 3~4 relays in there. not sure which one is the door lock relay, but you can find out what is what from FSM.

Yeah, i've checked the fuses that I figured could relate to the door locks. I also checked the 4 relays next to the fuse box in the driverside kick panel.

I tried swapping out the relays with 1 of the other relays in the kick panel, but I guess I really don't know if the other ones work.
1 thing I just noticed as well, is it seems every since my door locks stopped working the alarm that warns me when the headlights are still on and the ignition has been turned off has stopped working too.

Yeah, I have 3 brown relays and a light blue (I think) relay. My understanding it the 2nd relay down is the ACC relay which includes doors. Is that right??

Ok, I was looking at the FSM for something on my car and I stumbled upon this..
I checked my car with this option and that control unit is the one that powers the door locks and has internal relay in the unit. it's right above the driver side kick panel fuse box. hope this helps edit: only thing else I can think about if your unit still makes the relay noise when you hit the door lock/unlock, the door lock actuator maybe dead. I ordered mine from amazon and been using it for a while. power door lock actuator - Google Search

Ok, I'm back. Sorry, I've been working on a tuning program for my setup.
So, yeah. I don't even hear a clicking sound, so maybe I need to pull this whole box out. But, would my headlight chime be affected by this also or is it just coincidence that they went out about the same time?

Is there a way to unplug the harness from the smart entrance control unit and jump the wires in the harness to activate the door locks? I assume that if I can do that and the locks function it would solidify that the control unit is the issue.
What pins would I need to jump?

I domt know the pin layout but if u pull apart your door panel and apply positive and negative u will see the locks do something. To unplug thenharness u have to lift the black colored Swith lever thing sittingnaround the harness

I guess I better update this thread with my results, I see there's a link to this from the Zenki thread.
Anyhow, I finally got around to fixing my power door lock issue and apparently it was the Smart Entrance box located next to the fuse box in the driverside kick panel. I ended up pulling the box out and inspecting the circuit board and relays. Apparently there was a break in solder on the board itself, so I pulled out the soldering iron and re soldered it. Locks are back to working like new.

Well I solved part of the problem. I found that the harness plug that goes from the driver door into the fender well was unplugged on the driverside. I plugged it in and now my driver side mirror works!
My main lock switch also works now and I can lock/unlock the passenger door but the driver door still does not lock/unlock. |

Update.
I got the power mirrors and passenger door lock to work. However, the driver side door lock doesn't lock/unlock. I pulled the panel and tested the harness that goes into the actuator. I get 12v when I press the unlock switch. I get 0v when I press the lock switch. WTF? If I'm getting power from the harness when I Press unlock, it should trigger the door lock. My guess is that both the actuator AND the smart entrance unit is bad. Any pics of the soldered area (repair) on the smart entrance box? |
