Hey guys, I live and Missouri, and the wife and I want to take a vacation to Florida in October but we have no idea where to go!

Honestly, we want a very pretty vacation beach with nice water and sand and warm temperatures, but also have decent waves. I've surfed a little bit, and the wife wakeboards, but has never surfed, so we don't need mondo waves, just good enough to learn and have fun.

But we understand that Florida isn't super consistent with waves, and planning too far in advance is risky, but that's why we want a nice gorgeous vacation beach to fall back on if there is no surf. But we're deciding to go on a surfing trip instead of a scuba trip, so we want to surf as much as possible while we're there!

Thanks for the recommendations guys, also, if you know of a better place for us to be able to get what we want, not in Florida, let me know! ( not Hawaii, too expensive right now)

Possibly thinking Deerfield beach, seems to have the best of both worlds maybe? What do you guys think?

You can't go wrong with South Florida. If you are looking for waves, definately stick with the east coast rather than the gulf of mexico/tampa side. Deerfield beach has is close by Fort Lauderdale/Miami. It most certainly a perfect central location for a vacationing trip.

If you're looking for good waves in Florida, the most consistent places are Cocoa Beach and St. Augustine Beach. Even with those places, you may get there and it'll be Knee-highs all week. Your best bet for consistent waves is probably California. Is surfing the primary purpose of the vacation or do you want to do other stuff. Because there's a shit ton of stuff to do all around Florida. And in October the weather will be mild-ish and all the little fuckers will still be in school.

Clearwater Beach is one of the top rated beaches in America. I've lived here for 30 years and I never get board w/ it.

The waves on the other hand, East Coast of Florida. They are not huge, but they are good enough for beginners.

Stay on the East Coast, Cocoa is pretty well known for its surf, anywhere from Cocoa to Fort Lauderdale is prime. I grew up on the Treasure Coast and as long as you check the reports you usually won't be disappointed. I don't remember which beach it was, but there's one right by a power plant that had the best surf I had ever experienced, and due to it's location, the water was extra warm...

We went to Deerfield Beach and loved it! Kick ass little surf town. No waves all week which was a mega bummer, but did some stand up paddling and lots of snorkeling

Hollywood Beach has pretty decent waves but if you want a vacay you gotta go to Key West or Key Largo/ Isla Morada! Take it from a local born and raised in Miami
