I assume it is possible but ca smog requirements may restrict you from modifying the intake. Besides the smog issue, an maf adapter for air filter, and inlet air temp sensor adapter is what you would need. Most people just let the inlet air temp sensor hang loose since there are not many adapters available for this.

its possible but like mario said its against ca smog requirements
plus it burns ups MAFs which leads to idling issues. just save up for a used carb legal intake. you can get one on here for around 75 bucks. just be patient for a good deal, its always better to buy legit parts the first time instead of wasting money on crap. |

like i said before.. you can do it.. but you will regret it later. it WILL burn up your MAF. you will have to keep giving your car gas to make it idle. if you dont it will just stall. my friend did that on his intake and burnt up like 4 mafs before he got the picture |

K&N makes a nice intake setup that is not too expensive, but most importantly it is CARB approved and comes with the sticker with the CARB number on it to keep the smogman happy. Then you can lose the airbox...

K&N makes a great application that bolts in place of the stock air box like you want and has a CARB EO.

The only problem with a wet type filter is, you can over saturate the element. With the light weight K&N oil, guess where the additional oil is sucked into and what sensor it may contaminate?
Regardless, IMO K&N is a great filter manufacture. ~m

As an at heart musclehead, I'd say just replace the stock air filter with a better one. I've seen alot of 500+hp v8's with the stock airbox... Which is good for you because of CA's emissions laws.
Then again, 4cyls are a tad different. You can try modifying your stock intake box a little to help breath better. remove the baffles and what not, get a better filter. Its cold enough over on that side it won't make a huge difference if you take off them there fresh air tubes. And K&N manufactures the air filter for the M1 Abrams tank... just a little FYI

I have put K&N drop in filters in every vehicle I have owned. Never had a complaint.

lol @ failure. Someone else must have posted failure.... And since when have we taken one test from any manufacture as the answer for every application or situation? -- Ok here is my experience. I was employed with SuperShops for 6 years and also worked with CarCustom for over 4 years, not to mention my personal experience of 18 years. As you may already know, SuperShops was one of the top 10 retailers of K&N filters. With the volume of sales, we saw everything come in to us regarding feed back on many parts sold throughout the chain of over 170 stores nation wide. Anyway, I was serious v8 gear head. My love at that time was small block Chevy 1st gen and SB2 engines. I also used the E-3750 (14"x4" round) element in a drop-base bottom with the chrome K&N logo top. This is where I encountered my first oil collection found on the inner lower lip of the filter assembly. I contributed the collection due to ambient under the hood temps and possible over-saturation. AirCooled Volkswagen (yes i know...) was another fun time for me in the performance industry (may the "vw and performance is an oxymoron" comments begin). Long story short, over-saturated K&N filters sitting on flat based, almost non recessed bottoms on top of Weber or Dellorto downdraft carbs (especially with outerwears) showed the signs seepage onto the venturis. This wasn't a big deal since VW's are notoriously known for carb rebuilds and oil leaks among others... Who is to say this could not happen with a saturated tapered or oval style filter? IMO, K&N filters were and still are one of the best filter mfg's (as stated earlier) in the performance industry. I personally have sold many hundreds, maybe over a thousand of the K&N filters, installed hundreds K&N products and customers serviced probably over a thousand times. The large majority of my installations as well as customer installs have worked in near flawless performance. As with any manufacture, we do come across situations we would have never guessed could have happened. Once the product has reached a customers hand, anything is possible... ANYTHING! ~mario

I don't see how your anecdotal evidence proves anything. Quote:
Ebay filters are usually cheap paper shit that looks like a K&N. It won't work the same and will clog up after 15k. K&N will be good till 50k. Foam filters break down over time and shit goes into you intake. I have had people with green foam in their maf. You have a KA which is legal so why not keep it legal?

I may be a victim of my own cognitive bias at times. However, we are all entitled to our subjective validation. Hence, my personal experience as stated above. We should request K&N to release or conduct more real time R&D studies of each individual filter types for increased consumer/public knowledge. ~m

what does this mean, clean up your shit? is the stock airbox in some way dirty? based on the nonsense you post, i'm sure the engine bay is caked in grime, has exposed wires, etc, and you probably have a smashed in quarter or something severe that needs attention more than replacing a functional filter with some noname shit off ebay. you're a moron, kid.
