is this me or the tranny?

3rd time i miss a shift when going 3rd to 4th at 80 and putting it in 2nd. let me say that there is no scaryer feeling then when your tach goes all the way in red and a thought of a new motor momentaraly pops up.

I know most of you will say that it is the driver, but ive had two other 5spd cars (both FWD) and i never had this happen once. I am not a pro ofcourse and ive been driving manual cars since i got my lisence 5 years ago.Do know what i am doign . After seeing all those blown RSX motors at work(am an acura tech) with holes in the block size of an orange and piston looking like a gold nugget every time this happens i think i am completely fucked... and yet my DE KA with 140k on the clock didnt even bend a valve.

Could this be that something in the shifter wore out at 140k and does anyone have this happen to them...it does feel very sloppy? ALso this didnt seem start to happen until i put BM shift knob on factory shifter which made it really really high but this might be just me looking for an excuse.

Probabbly user error + sloppy shifter.

Short shifters are cheap...try one, see if it helps.

Any of the " Mr C's " knock-offs (OBX, Pilot, SRR, etc...) will do fine, and are less than $80 typically.

shifting technique? How do you pull the shift level down from 3 to 4?

Only way that can happen is if the end of the shift rod is worn, and same with the insert for the shift forks. Then the shift rod can slide into second. Try to pull straight down when shifting into 4th.

He probably has his hand wraped around the shifter instead of having it on top of the shifter. With the shifter being sloppy he probably pulls it a little toward him when shifting.
