spray painting pop up cover

I don't have a compressor, nor the funds for one. I have never worked with actual automotive paint but one day would love to. For now, I try to learn proper prepping techniques and steps.

I always see people spray bombing their cars and it looking ridiculously hideous.

example)

Nothing new, I know. Since I neither have the money to buy the proper equipment, nor to pay a professional, I have painted plenty of panels on my time with spray paint. I'm actually surprised there isn't a dedicated body modification/ paint subforum here.

I bought a pop up cover, which was black, and painted it white to match my car. I sanded it down with 80 grit:

Second step, primered with self-etching primer in a can.

Third step, painted a few coats of this Nissan restoration spray paint from Oreilly's.

Fourth step, a couple coats of clear coat spray paint.

Fifth step, wet-sanded with 2000-grit

polished using Meguir's products. End result:

Lighting in my room isn't good enough to show it's true surface, and I will admit I could of buffed it out better with the polisher, but I feel it looks a lot better than most peoples' "spray bombing"

Doesn't look bad... but it doesn't deserve its own thread.

After seeing countless threads asking the same question time after time, while the answers are already in multiple threads, including the small questions thread, I don't see the harm in starting my own thread on something I actually accomplished and wanted to show you guys. But hey, if a mod wants to go ahead and delete it or move it it to its "proper" place, by all means.

I'd rather save up for a compressor and spray gun. Which, if I score this new job I interviewed for, I will start doing.
