Alright I"m having a kinda strange electrical problem in my s14, I have looked around for something similar to it but can't find anything. I am also looking at the fsm, and pulling my dash to see if I can find the problem, Im just trying to get some more idea's as to what could be the cause.

What is happening is when the key is not in the ignition, I hit the brakes and the gauge cluster and the hvac unit will lit up, and the buzzer sound goes off, like the key is in the ignition.

While the key is in the ignition and turned to the on position, I hit the brakes and the gauge cluster and hvac unit lites up as well. But when I turn the lights on neither the guage cluster or hvac unit will lite up.

The brake lights do work, and when I disconnect the sensor for those all the problems go away. I believe I have some exposed wires touching, but any more ideas of what I should look for through the dash harness would be appriciated.

sounds like a grounding issue to me...

Seperate the tape up the exposed wires. What sensor are you taking about disconnecting? Remove your brake lights and make sure they are dual filament bulbs.

do you have any kind of aftermarket cruise control or alarm system? or anything aftermarket tied in to the brakes or lights to the dash? after market gauges, etc? if so, i'd check there first. it does sound like feedback through the grounding circuit.

i fixed it late last night after like 10 hours of working with it. there was some cray wiring done with the 3rd brake light and some exposed wires for the front running light. all done by one of the previous owners.
