Try Ebay, I saw a few S14 DE's but I would just search for the S13 DE's since your going to do a VE head and piston swap.

s13 sr20de would be a good idea. but s13's are high port motors and s14's are low ports. ve heads are low port as well. not sure if that matters because i know a custom manifold will be required. i forget the site that makes the kit but it is really pricey so i will have something made by a friend. the de will be in for a little while before the ve head will go on. id like a s14de to start with but i have been searching and still haven't came up with anything. the search continues.

I'm doing an S15 SR20DE+T setup myself. I'm still in the process of doing an OE rebuild before installing the motor. Just a caution the S14/S15 SR20DE are high compression motor 10:1 ratio. You will need better fuel to make it reliable. Unless of course you will be switch the internals so that wouldn't be an issue. As for my setup, I'm rataining everything stock other than fresh OE gaskets, rings and bearings. I will be relying on the Tuning, Bigger Injectors and E85 to keep the motor happy with boost. GL!

Yes, S13 DE ECU and Harness with plugs adapted for the SR. I'm looking into TunerCode for the tune and which will enable to have trigger outputs for VTC Activation. I may also consider a standard bin and just use an external RPM switch. No realtime boards at the moment just standard daugtherboard. I don't see the car being retuned so many times to merit a real time board. Besides the RT board i'm interested on is still on development stages.

If your going to the VE swap you need to figure out a few things 1st.

1 how are you going to tune it? Stand alone? Stock ECU? If your going the stock ECU route get the S13 SR20DE. They have daughter boards that will do real time tuning. This will make your life way easier.

2 Buy stock 2.0VE pistons unless you live some place that has 93 pump gas or your going to run E85 then go with new SR16VE pistons. Those pistons will give you a comp ratio of 13.1ish. The pistons are $60 each for either stock 2.0VE or SR16VE. You need to use the SR20VE/16VE oil pump with the swap. The stock DE oil pump will not keep up.

3 U are going to have to bash the firewall to make room for the CAS that you will have to make or buy a SR20VE 20V one. Remote mount the VVL solenoids and get something to trigger it with.

4 Intake manifold, Xcessive makes a kit that will bolt onto the stock lower half of the VE manifold. This will work but your going to be missing HP & TQ because it's just too short. You can buy a SR16VE N1 lower manifold and use the Xcessive kit and it won't kill your tq. A good header is going to be needed if you want to make good power. Custom will prob have to do. 22" long primaries to the collector and a 2.25" choke seems to work good for the fwd guys. 3" exhaust will also help and depending on your compression ratio N1 cams will be a big help. They say you can rev to 8k on stock valve springs with the N1 cams. I would even risk it, just get some supertech valve springs.

It might be better to just buy a whole VE motor so you get the oil pump/pistons and head.

I'm always messing around with my real time on my VE motor. I just can't stop messing with it for better or worse. TunerCode is the cats meow.

Just curious which RT board are you using. Nistune or Calum perhaps?

ground performance, where did you find your de?

yellow 4g63, im still doing some research but a ve was my dream when i had my sr20 b14 back in the day. ill answer your questions to where i am at so far.

1. Fwd guys with just bolt ons from what i have read do not even tune? but eventually a standalone will be in the works. just use a window switch for the cams.

2. There is 93 octane and e85 where i live. plus this car is not a dd. pistons are something i still have to look into. and yes i am aware of the oil pump issue as well.

3. I remember seeing a build on the sr20 forum and instead of bashing the firewall with a hammer. cut a notch and have a new piece of metal welded in to fit the cas. maxworx makes the vvl relocation brackets so id go with those. and as for triggering a msd window switch will do the trick. thats what most fwd guys go with from what i see.

4. Intake manifold, im still trying to figure out this as well. not sure what route i want to go with. i know about the ports on the header as well. buddy has a cnc and is a good welder so i will more than likely have him make me a header to match the exhaust ports. n1 cams are in my head as well because the only after market ve cams ive seen are from Australia and they are pricey.

i know i still have some researching to do but right now im just trying to find a de motor set to get in the car. i dont have the money for a huge build so it will all be in baby steps. i like to be somewhat different so thats why i want to go the ve route. maybe someday way down the line have a sr20vet setup but im not even thinking about that right now. so back to my original question. anyone know where i can find a good price de motor set?

I'm a fwd guy too it's the only reason I know about the VE. Been playing with them since 06. I think it would be way easier to run a standalone, you can use a crank trigger method so you don't have to cut the hole in the firewall. From what I heard you have to shave down the VE oil because it's a little taller than the S14 block (not 100% haven't checked myself). I did get my hands on the 20V cas and coil packs the other day uber hard to find unless your on the look out.
