S14 starter clicks but doesn't turn over
Hi guys, so I've been encountering this issue recently where the starter clicks but then goes silent. The thing is it still manages to start sometimes. So I thought it might be the starter and I got it repaired with new solenoid switch and carbon, etc. Installed it and it still doesn't manage to turn over. I've tried cleaning the battery contact points, tightening the clamps and all the grounds. My ignition has been modified by the previous owner and it has a power on switch and a start button. Could the start buttom be faulty? Is that even possible since it's just a contact point for 2 wires? I've read that there is a starter relay? Some says it's in the engine bay, some says it's in the passenger side panel. Any insight would be very much appreciated. It's a 1994 zenki s14 sr20det manual trans. I don't have to step on the clutch when starting the car as well

-Check starter relay. Bypass relay by jumping the circuit and see if it works
-Inspect your aftermarket ignition switch, replace or "hot wire" to bypass -Check connection between lower engine harness and body harness (look for corrosion or anything out of the ordinary) Quote:
PS. You will kill your battery pretty quickly by continuously trying to start the car unsuccessfully. Make sure you have a well charged battery. You can also kill your new starter if you just let it crank. I would cycle your attempts while you troubleshoot.

I'm guessing it's a weak connection somewhere for the starting issues. The car has been able to start these days, so I'll probably just leave it for now lol |
