Midwest Rally fans

Cliffnotes: Saturday, Februrary 21st. 100 Acre Wood SCCA ClubRally in south-central Missouri

go to www.100aw.org

Details:
I don't know how many of you guys are rally fans, but we have an opportunity to see real rally racing right here in our back yard. The 100 Acre Wood Performance Rally takes place in Salem/Steelville/Viburnum Missouri. It covers over 200 miles through rural Missouri on gravel, pavement, and sand. It is part of the SCCA's ClubRally Championship points, so a lot of exotic(to this region anyway) machinery.

I went to watch last year's rally, and I had a blast. Seeing rally cars slide by on gravel while shooting flames is definitely not an everyday occurrence in Missouri. I plan on going again this year, if anybody else wants to go, or plans on going, let me know, I am from around that area, so we could meet up and go to the different spectator stages.

The rally is on Feb 20th and 21st(Saturday) pretty much all day.

All the official info is here:
http://www.100aw.org/

You can see my pics from last year here:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290626373

and you can see some more pics here:
http://www.artpartphoto.com/tresspasserswil2003.html

*a word of caution: rural Missouri's roads aren't too kind to lowered vehicles, and I got stuck in the mud at one of the spectator stages last year.

Dood, I'm seriously thinking about going, looks sweet from your pics of last years event! How far from Kansas City? Is there any admittance fees?

I'll be leaving the 240 at home though

The rally is free to spectate. And you can come and go as you please to any of the spectator points.

It takes me a little over 2 hours to get to Kansas City from Columbia, and it then takes me a little over 2 hours to get to Salem from Columbia.... So you are looking at a bit over 4 hours, but you can cut down some time by taking highway 50 to Jeff City, and the first spectator point is only halway between Rolla and Salem, so thats aother 15mins off. Here is where the rally is:

This is a map of the local area, copied from another site:

Quote:
The map below may give you a sense of scale. These are various locations from the 2003 rally that I marked on the GPS. (Note that the routes, spectator points, etc. may all be different for 2004.)

RALLY HQ = Dent County Motors, in Salem.
TWILSPEC = Trespassers Wil Spectator Point
100AWSPEC1 = 100 Acre Wood Spectator Point #1
100AWSPEC2 = 100 Acre Wood Spectator Point #2 (in Viburnum)
100AWSPEC3 = 100 Acre Wood Spectator Point #3
100AWSPEC4 = 100 Acre Wood Spectator Point #4
ATC4 = Start of stage 4, my daytime work assignment (stage 4 was a tarmac stage)
ATC10 = Start of stage 10, my nighttime work assignment
FLYINGMAZD = 90 left, triple caution, Flying Mazda Corner (not part of the rally, as far as I know)

Yeah, I figure its a good excuse to come home and see the family for a while, so I will be staying in Rolla friday night. Where did your car end up after all the clutch problems? Is it back in St Louis?

bump, just incase any of the 10 views were from someone thinking of going.

copied from another site:

Yay!

Weather forecast looks great as of now, mostly sunny high of 47º

Maps and directions are up on 100aw.org for the spectator points, I suggest printing those off before heading down there, there should also be rally packets at some of the local gas stations. Speaking of gas stations, make sure to fill up when you get to Salem, because you don't want to run out of gas way out in the woods somewhere.

See you there!

For anyone who hasn't been to a rally before;
bring snacks and beverages because the spectator points may be far from commercial establishments. Always bring a warm, water proof jacket in case something happens (car brakes down, gets stuck, etc).
Always stay in the designated spectator points and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS park your car where they say you should. Remember that stages are considered live until you see the official car drive the stage.
Bring something to sit on (blankets, tarps, lawn chairs, whatever)
And this probably doesn't apply to many here, but keep a close eye on children.. many things can happen on a live rally stage and its dangerous for them to wander too far away.
Have a good time, wish it was closer or I'd be there.

I had fun, saw lots of cool cars, got to drive around on supertwisty backroads, took some decent pictures for once.
