Well, do you have a fmic, or smic, battery in the engine bay or the trunk(relocated), whats your price range? all these things plus more im sure factor into what you should get... i have a freind that has a lawn motor batter in his car just cause the size of it fits right next to the fmic piping, i have heard optima are good batterys, also odyssey, and other brands...

lawn mower battery from wallmart cheap works perfect
miata battery a little more expenisive works perfect
drycell battery most expensive more amps

i think you need atleast 320 cold cranking amps , so anything with that or better that can fit in the location your puting the battery in will work

I believe the first gen ones actually came from the factory with gel cell batteries, like the Optima batteries, and the later ones have the regular style ones where it's got the acid (or was it a base?) inside and all that.

Anyway, if you get the "Miata battery" from Autozone or your local auto parts store, it'll more than likely just be the "regular" kind that's got the acid (or base) sloshing around inside. I have one of these. Works with FMIC piping.

Its a Lead-Acid, Lead oxide (PbO2) anodes and a Lead cathode(Pb(IV)) with a Sulfuric Acid(HSO4) as an electrolyte.

Wow...chemistry!

I had a Westco battery die very quickly on me...I got an interstate and it was a champ.

Yeah I remember it was sulfuric acid that was in some batteries, but I don't remember if it was in the car battery because I was also recently looking up the make up of NiMH and Li-Ion batteries for like cameras and stuff.

Thanks for the clarification
