Can somebody fill us in on the finer points of the new stimulus package?

I searched around and can't really find anything new about about this years plans. There are a lot of what Obama wants to do but who knows what will acutally happen at this point. But just fyi...Obama favors tax cuts over refunds/rebates so I've read, so don't expect to get a check in the mail this year, but maybe when you do your taxes next year you will get more back...

maybe someone has some new info

I am not 100% sure on that, but nothing I have read has stated that we will be getting a check again.

This will be like the last one...it will stimulate the big shots that got obama elected except the rest of us will not be getting checks this time. Not bitching. I don't support gov't hand outs anyway.

It's going to be paid for with a deficit of close to 1 trillion dollar.

I only worked for half a year in 2007, paid no taxes and I got the stimulus check in 2008.

People who don't pay income taxes will be getting checks as well.

Tax cuts to people who don't pay income taxes.

this lady that did my 2008 taxes is an IRS employee. she stated that we will be getting a 2009 stimulus check. so be sure to file your taxes ASAP. and she stated that instead of getting $600 (previous), we will be getting $1000.

Until I see/hear it specifically stated, I am doing the same. Nothing anyone can find me specifically has said that checks will be distributed, only "I heard," or something like "I should/is supposed to be..." or "he said on the campaign..."

last i heard (about 5 min ago on local news) that this ISN'T 100% set in stone yet.

thats why there is no real info on how much/when it will come.

I thought the idea of Obama's stimulus package was direct money to states that begin projects to create more jobs. Not an actual stimulus check to individuals. That is the only talk that I have heard so far. Simulating the economy by creating jobs and fixing problems within the states are great. It will be used to fund agencies and projects like roads and bridges.

He's talking about creating 3-4 million more jobs but hasn't said anything bout sending out money but it was said before...

And when the projects end? Then what? Our debt to our creditors will be even larger. Is a smoother road and pretty bridge going to pay off our debt?

That is how I was understanding it...
Personally, if it means more long term debt for nothing more than "sending everybody a check," you can keep the stimulus package, there are bigger issues to address.
