Minor stripping/prep work on the car.

so I went through the car marking everything with a red X that i need/want removed and marked all the spot welds that need to be drilled out.

here is just a small spot in the car with alot of stuff i want removed.

next, my buddy Vince drilled out the welds that held in the tubbing in the engine bay since i wasn't around.

Tubbing gone!

next to come out will be the speaker/storage area in the car along with all the pointless brackets that will no longer be needed...THEN ITS FAB TIME!!!

Now this is my type of build! I remember the thread about your house. It's nice to see that you've bounced back, and jumping in like a boss...

Expect LOTS of funny gifs from me in this build! This is going to be AMAZING!

btw, are you gonna use a P11 or P12 VVL solenoid?

and whyd you pick the 20V cams over the N1s? seems that the N1s would suit your application better, no?
im also saving up for a VET build in my S12

what is the length from the mounting flange to the farthest part from the motor? I'm not around the engine right now, but i believe I have about 9" between the engine and strut tower wall.

sorry for the lack of updates, I was moving into a new house and was occupied for a couple weeks. here is a small update, the car is out for fab work but the new C&R radiator came in today!

I also had the Mazworx water pump block off plate come in the mail today!

in addition, I have changed from running Mazworx z32 transmission setup to running Mazworx z33 transmission setup. Main reason for the change is that OS Giken doesn't make gears for the z32 transmission. i will have alot more updates before the month is up.

Oh hell yes! That was the only thing I could nit pick about this build and you just made it perfect!! Glad you opted for the Z33 tranny setup over the Z32!

That radiator is very nice as well! Bravo Sir..

Check out ppg. They make straight cut gears for the Z32.

Quote:
Here's what Steve @ PPG sent me when I asked about pricing:

"Thanks for your enquiry.

If you don’t want the DOG engagement then I would recommend the 1-4 Helical Synchro. This set is rated to 900HP and the ratios sit at 2.621 / 1.637 / 1.240 / 1.000. The Dog set is a little more heavy duty for higher horsepower cars.*

Pricing as follows:*

GTR GTSt 1st – 4th Helical Cut Synchro: $5280 AUD
GTR GTSt 1st -4th Helical Cut Dog: $6600 AUD
GTR GTSt 5speed Straight Cut Dog: $9020 AUD
Billet Mainshaft: $1210 AUD*

Please note that shipping is not included, and please let me know if you have further questions or would like to place an order."

I ordered the 5spd Straight Cut Dog plus the Billet Mainshaft, I also ordered a custom fifth gear as their 0.839 is too short for me, they went to a 0.752 so I could keep the rpms down on the highway for a little bit extra.

Gearset w/ billet slector forks: $8243.50AUD
Billet Mainshaft: $1089.00AUD
Shipping To Canada: $345AUD

So it was $9677.50 shipped Australian... It certainly isn't cheap, but the quality on this stuff is amazing. He offered me a 10% discount, I'm sure he can do the same for you.

Stuff that should be replaced: Bearings and seals, your transmission shop can get this. A couple items will need to be machined as well, the thrust washer, and the front cover that goes over the input shaft (forget what it's called).

There's one more thing though, the input shaft on this is a 1 1/8" 26 spline item (same as Hollinger), so you will need a clutch for that application. Luckily, Carbonetic makes a center hub for my carbon clutch just for this application for the gtr, it's on the way from Japan right now."

From a member on 300zx club.

Well now that your going back to Z33 trans, there is another option out there depending on your budget for drivetrain are the Quaife G60(VQ specific) its bolt on for the VQ so I beleive if you reverse engineer it with the regular adaptor plates that put regular Z33 on SR. It should work in theory. HAHAHHA
