The event was ok. not worth 160 imo. too many pplz and a lot of waiting for drifting. maybe if you signed up for the autox it be worth it because that was just like spirited driving on a track that goes up hills and curves w/ other cars.

it was more organzied and split into groups switching between different areas. it could have been better organized because some of the ppl workin there didn't really know what to do.

it was kept runing pretty smooth. events started a little late because registration and everything took a little longer than expected. it was a pretty big cluster out there. i thought there were goin to be 80 cars max but it seemed like more than that at the drivers meet.

it was a safe event. the ppl running thunderhill knew what they were doing. im talkin about the ppl who work at thunderhill and gave the speeches about the flags.

What did you like about the event most?
the cars were plenty. too many 240s. i liked the red fd. other than the huge groups of 240s, there were small groups of maybe 5-10 STis, evos, rx7 fd and fcs, 1 mrspyder, 1 nsx, and an old guy driving a yellow porshe gt3.

What did you least like about the event?
the showoffs. the black wrx with rally lights who drove in the chevron and reved all the way out and didn't even get gas. i heard there was an evo doin stupid stuff and some others.

man. this was my first track event. drifting is harder than i thought. made me feel like i want to give up on spending all this money on my car. the car wouldn't go where i wanted to go. it was soo frustrating. seeing all these advance groups drifting pretty well. it felt like all i was doing was driving reckless out on the skidpad and jturn w/ super vision. it was fun driving out there, but it did get boring cuz the car didn't go wherei wanted to go after so many tries. i guess with more practice ill get better but i just wanted to give up drifting because it was too hard.

I didn't think the event was all that safe considering the way they organized the lines after J-Turns, the lines were too close to people doing the j turns. I think it was pretty unorganized and I thought we were going to get more instruction, but the instructors in my opinion weren't even that good. They hardly instructed me.


One other correction, it wasn't an wrx that kept reving if im not mistaken. It was an EVO ? no ? but that guy was a fucking idiot and loooked stupid revving his motor at everyone.

and o yea, the black evo guy....im under the impression that it was just a turbo fwd lancer?

Time on the track?
I was happy with the time on track. Im not good enough to really do much on the roadcourse so I was able to just practice on the jturns and skidpad. The only time I got out of my car was for lunch, so yea there was plenty of driving time.

How it was run?
Everything went smoothly for me.

Safety?
The lines for the jturns and skidpads could have been allocated more room and it would have been easy because there was a lot of free room in the paddoc area. There were also quite a few spectators standing right next to the cones on the jturns, Im unsure what exactly they were thinking...

What did you like about the event most?
Lots of time to do whatever you want and really be able to relax and concentrate on learning and improving your skills.

What did you least like about the event?
The black lancer pretending to be an evo You have a turbo, thats nice so does everyone else.
I didnt seem to see many people showing off so I guess I cant comment on that.

Overall the event was awesome. I got a lot of time to fix some stuff I was doing wrong and to really relax while I was out there.
Big thanks to Jay for helping me out on the first few runs and putting up with what was probably some scary driving on my part
Hopefully there will be more similar events.

I found the event smooth and a great learning experience. The thing i didnt like was some show offs. Everyone was cool to talk to and ask for help or questions. The black lancer was a big showoff it was just a regular FWD lancer + turbo. If you looked at his rear breaks they were drum. I also saw a lot of ppl improve includeing you NZO good job out there. Your starting to get it. I still need more time out there my car had some tech problems during the middle of the day.

I enjoyed the event alot. Everyone was cool to everyone else and no drama. I like the fact that the whole track was offered to everyone at the end of the day.

This was my first time at an event and it was a great learning experience. My instructor, Victor (I think that was his name, hehad a black rx-7), was really nice. He took me for a few runs in his car and then in my car and after each run he would explain everything in detail and answer all my questions. I totally agree with you FRpilot. In the first session, I was getting hecka pissed and frustrated. I couldn't do anything right at all. I couldn't break the rear loose at all but it was in the second half after Victor took me for a few runs, things became a bit easier. I was happy to be able to break the rear loose even though I spun out a few times into the dirt. Hecka scary!!!! The car just kept on spinning in the dirt and then took a while to start back up. Also it kind of sucked how I didn't really know anyone (really sucked how I missed meeting up with NZO) and the people there seemed like they came in as groups of friends so that made it a bit more difficult. But all in all, a great track day for me. Hopefully they'll have another one soon.

Well, Thank you Tod and all staffs from NCDA. it was a great events.

I am hoping we have this type of event in Nor Cal every month.
For sure I will be there as driving to LA for drifting event isn't fun at all.

As for those beginners, Instructors are your best friend.
Those advanced drivers aint good when they just started years ago.
We need more people supporting this type of event so people don't have to drive all the way to So Cal or risk themselves on street racing and drifting.

Anyways, other than not enough seat time on track I am happy.
Great layout for both beginner and advanced drivers.
As for safety issue, it was OK as there was not much room for those constatly having a hard time dealing with PUSH-UNDER in J turn session especially novice drivers.

I liked the event made me wish i had the funds to get out there, but hopefully next time. i got there late afternoon when the black turbo'd lancer was sitting there revving at everyone then parks. and he was either hitting his alarm off and on or had it on right next to the skid pad. that s13 fastback with the kouki front end was a new conversion to me, fenders looked a good bit to long then what they should have been but all in all it was clean. wish i could have been there in the morning and stayed longer then i did. Would love if this became a once a month thing.

The event was good overall, but I just wish I had more track time to drift. Didn't really care too much for the skid pad and j-turns but I was lovin the drift track layout. Did anyone hit the first turn on the drift track in 3rd gear? I was hoping to try it out but seemed like there was not enough room to get up to speed. The esses were nice too, very fast going through there.

I thought I would get one last chance to go on the drift track for the last session but instead they opened up the whole track to grip driving. That kinda bummed me out, but I still had fun running the whole track. It was nice that they let us alternate between drift and grip. Whenever my group was on the skid pad or j-turns, I would go out for some grip driving.

The organization was ok, I understand it was their first time running an event. But the registration line was ridiculous, they should've had at least one other table open. I missed most of the drivers meeting even though I got there right at 7am. But overall a very fun day. Seemed like a good turn out so hopefully we'll have more events up here.

This is my first drift/track event, which I thought it was cool. Too bad I didn't have the fund or the skill to enter yet. I went with my crew (PX racing) from Travis AFB. Didn't really get to talk or meet other people since the event is none stop. I learn quite a bit by taking rides with my buddy when they drifted. I think the skidpad was kinda boring to watch after a while but other than that, the event is awesome. Oh yeah, what's up NZO (christian)? Havn't seen you since the Davis meet. Sorry I didn't get to say hi. U were busy drifting?

Oh, one more thing, the stupid black Evo wanna be is hella wack. He tried to drift but just ended up making a fool of himself. I hope someone would tell him that he sucks and he should take his fake ass lancer and go home. ;-) Well, that is kinda mean but that's the truth.

it was my first time i ever been to a track for drifting... i had a good time even though i wasn't able to drive (stupid car that's in the middle of a swap)... i was riding with my friend in his grey silvia (S13 coupe with front end conversion) and he was tearin it up on the J-turn and the drift track... but we were kinda hoping for more time on the track... other than that it was great... safety wise, i thought that people walking around the J-turn was a little to close and there was always alotta confusion with the line... overall the event was great fun for me and a good learning experience...

P.S. As for the Black Lancer, he blew his clutch on his ride, i was talking to him for a bit after he blew it... it was a cool ride (definetly different) and he was able to get the rear to break loose a bit , just not all the time... people questioned what he was doing in drift, but he wants to do his thing... can't stop that... just my .02 cents

Overall, for me I was kinda dissapointed for the lack of track time. On every session I've been, I was only able to drift twice except about 4 times during the one hour session. There were a lot of unsafe situations but I know its always hard to control a large group of people. The staff of the event are all cool. Just a little bit unorganized on some occassions. As for my .02 of the Lancer guy, I did notice him showing off and holding us up during our sessions. But, you just have to ignore it and enjoy your time at the event. You will just ruin your day if you keep on worrying about that. Alright fellas, hopefully I meet you guys at the next event or meets (whenever). Laters.

Okay you guys know I didn't run... so this was an observer's POV...

Time on the track?
For the grip guys... I believe the time on the track was good. Just about the same time you'd get at an open track session (30min run intervals) and the run groups were divided welll even though there were some people that didn't belong in the groups they were in... but this applied to both grip and drift. One other thing is this event would suck for people like me who are trying to get times since the track was divided into 2 parts (one reason I chose not to go to this event).

Drift... first of all the track layout SUCKED... c'mon basically 2 turns maybe 3 could be utilized... and it was the west side of the track. There were obviously too many cars there to get a good amount of seat time. For the first timers it would be okay to waste tires on the JTurns/skidpad... but I still saw a lot of "unda" "unda"/plowing toward the end of the day (and they gave them a wet surface to play on... but this could induce understeer also).

How it was run?
Given it was the NCDA's first event... I would say everything went ok... BUT, not every driver was aware of the schedule, and some I know of were confused about where they should be... a little disorganization, but it can be cleared up for later events.

Safety?
Okay, now anyone who thinks that this event was safe is kidding themselves. Although the grip side of this event was rather safe... the drift was all bad. Considering the amount of newbs there and understeering/lack of control on the Jturns/skid pad... there should have been NO spectators allowed as close as they were. Now that I think of it... there should never be spectators that close. I know there was a limited amount of space... but they should have cleared out people from those areas. One other thing... there were a lot of one hand wannabe's... even passengers with their hands and feet out of the vehicles... in all the drift portion could have been a lot safer. Luckily there were no injuries/accidents.

What did you like about the event most?
The track is the only thing I'd say I would have liked about this event... other than that... and the fact that some of my friends came out to the event.

What did you least like about the event?
People like the black lancer pretending to be an evo... "Plow King" Drift track... who likes not having more than 2-3 turns to practice drift on (better to go cone dodging at a DD... at least you get a whole run). Grip, non-usage of the entire track... but since this was a drift/grip event I guess it was ok. There were too many cars there IMO... and the run groups were not divided up correctly. Basically as one person (who will remain nameless) put it... "it's a bunch of guys that *think* they're advanced LOL" The instructors were my friends... some guys were from my team. They are good guys to learn from, but there was no real prior instruction for drift. They should have IMO given a 30 second "what to try" "what you should feel" session for the newbs. I saw too much understeering toward the end of the day on the Jturns/skidpad... people should be spinning out rather than plowing by then.

No problem man... actually you didn't scare me one bit... kinda conservative driving IMO!!!

Sorry if my opinion doesn't matter here since I wasn't a driver... but it was just my review of the event.

Time on the track? in my honest opinion.. i think.. it would of been better if say.. the run groups for drift hadabout 1 hour per session then switched off.. cause with 30 min intervals the run groups would be more in transition than actual in car practice.. but the day was fun...

How it was run? it was pretty good.. not much wrong for a first time run event..

Safety? it was relatively safe.. if common sense prevaled on the spectators then yes it would be fine on the skidpad/ j - turn section

What did you like about the event most? i think that the number of people there it showed great interest in more norcal events..

What did you least like about the event? i reallt didnt like the fact that i blew my motor on the grip side..

well anyways other than that.. i think i reall disliked the black lancer.. i didnt even know it was only ff.. geez...

Overall, I had a fun time. My only complaint was not enough track time. I just started to get a feel for it, and it was over. It was the first time organizing a drift event like this one at Thunderhill, so there's bound to be some confusion, unorganization. I would have liked the spectators to be a little further away from the j-turn. Other then that, it was good. I'm glad they opened up the track at the end. It let me let off some steam after understeering all day. Too bad my exhaust fell off on the last lap.

Overall I thought the event was pretty alright for their first event. As for the instructing, you guys should have asked (as stated in the drivers meeting) what you were doing wrong/right...etc. I also thought during the drift meeting, the instructors could have gave some tips/pointers and such. Time on the track I thought was okay. Grip drivers looked like they had a lot more than drift drivers.
