I did. An entire Tomei kit of solid lifters is half the price of oem. But the JWT s3 cams are designed to work best with an oem head.

Why would you do that? The best part of VVL is getting some low and midrange back while still having a cam profile that rips above 8k RPM.

Were you getting ignition break up? I'd recommend iridium plugs - copper plugs are the hot setup of like 15 years ago.

No reason for 8 range plugs, 7 range is plenty. What sort of timing are you running? Seems like more of a soft tune than anything.

No rocker arms coming out of place. Easier to tune. Less conversion costs albeit not that much more considering the entire conversion. Not everyone is concerned about the first 4500 rpm band considering that you'd have another 4500 to play with if you like...not really ideal for a small turbo like the GT2871 I'd imagine though.

damn, i just realized, i doubt thats it because the sr maf is using the same piping when i swap to z32. probably not my issue, unless the z32 maf is more sensitive to placement.

What are your guys' thoughts on the Tomei Poncams on the S14 SR with the GT2871R .64 a/r? Are they any good? Also, this may be a n00b question, but what is the point of rocker arm stoppers? Are they really necessary? Oh, and with a mild setup like this is it better to run Z32 maf or Apexi D-Jetro for possible future upgrades?

according to codyace (i would consider him the expert on setups with this turbo) the best cams are the jwt s3's. easiest tuning solution is z32 maf with enthalpy or jwt tune.
Rocker arm stoppers - SR20 Forum this is a decent thread on rocker arm stoppers, they are cheap insurance to prevent the rocker arms from coming off the HLA's and breaking. |

I just ordered some Tomei Procams 260 deg 12mm lift lash type. $325 out the door. I was gonna move on some HKS 264 step 2 cams but they go for $522 plus tax.
Heads up, if you DO want HKS cams Thmotorsports is the ONLY shop who has them in stock right now ready to ship. Ask for Jonathan ext 107 |

so my setup is in, 2871r, tomei expreme manifold & turbo elbow, 740ccs & nistune. stock internals. I'm running 9lbs on my greddy profec b spec 2. i love the response compared to my old t25 and the turbo sounds muchhhhhh more serious spooling lol. i guess ill dyno my car soon and increase boost till I'm at like 320. safe for stock internals..rite? also I'm probably going to swap my profec b for a hallman manuel boost controller.

graph on a dyno jet.
we did a few quick pulls to verify AFR while we adjusted Dwell time on the LS coils. the dyno program wasnt reading RPM properly so i couldnt a shot of that graph. not too sure how accurate these numbers are but the butt dyno feels nice s14 sr, 2871 .64, greddy cams, 810cc, haltech |
