Upgrading your 240sx brakes on a budget.
Every one should know that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Who wouldn't want to spend $3,000 on a new set of Brembos, StopTech, Project Mu, or whatever else is out there.
Now keep in mind this article has been beaten to death forever, but this guide will help with the weight, calipers, pads, rotors, and bolt pattern. 1989-1998 USDM 240sx Weight: 18lbs Caliper: Single Piston Pad Width: 1.59" Pad Length: 4.28" Rotor Diameter: 9.90" Rotor Width: .790" Bolt Pattern: 4x114.3(all S13 trims: BASE & LE trim s14) 5x114.3(SE S14 trim) 1989-1994 JDM 180/Silvia or 1989-1999 USDM Maxima & 1993-1997 Altima Weight: 27lbs Caliper: Single Piston Pad Width: 1.79" Pad Length: 4.84" Rotor Diameter: 11" Rotor Width: .875" Bolt Pattern: 4x114.3 (USDM Altima) 5x114.3(1989-1994 JDM 180/Silvia and 1989-1999 USDM Maxima) *Must use their mounting brackets with their caliper for proper fitment. 1990-1993 Intiniti Q45 Weight: 29lbs Caliper: Dual Piston Pad Width: 2.19" Pad Length: 4.97" Rotor Diameter: 11" Rotor Width: .980" Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3 *I would use the Brake Master Cylinder from a 300ZX, but the original will be fine if not needing or wanting to upgrade. 1990-1996 300ZX Twin Turbo Weight: 24bs (Aluminum Calipers) Caliper: Four Piston Pad Width: 1.97" Pad Length: 4.63" Rotor Diameter: 11" Rotor Width: 1.126" Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3 *The non-turbo model has 26mm rotors and the TT has 30mm rotors. Also aluminum and iron built calipers were made for both models. Once again you must upgrade your Master Brake Cylinder to use these monsters. 2003-2009 350z *Below is the specs for 2003-2004 models of the 350z. For the 240sx spindle to work with these calipers you must drill the caliper mounting holes on the spindle for the larger M14 mounting bolts. Weight: 27lbs Caliper: Single Piston Pad Width: 1.78" Pad Length: 4.63" Rotor Diameter: 11.65" Rotor Width: .950" Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3 *2005-2009 350z models used Dual Pistons and larger rotors with the Track Edition Brembos. Now do your homework and look at pricing on all these before buying. Don't want to upgrade to the 350z Track Edition Brembos and find out down the road it'll cost you close to $1500. None of this would not have been done without picking up a magazine from PROJECT CAR. All thanks go to them I just summarized this and posted for all to use. |

I have Q45's on my stock s13 master, drilled/slotted dot 4 SS lines all around and they are very nice,, barely have to use any pressure on the petal for normal stops but will stop the car in an instant with alot of modulation ,, very control-able braking I have never locked them up any any situation

Your "great article" is a copy/paste of numerous articles on the internet.
That one for example (which is way better imho) The Definitive 300ZX Brake Swap Paqe Want cheap upgrade ? 300zx brakes . Want better upgrade ? Ask def for a wilwood kit. No need for fancy 120.000pistons brake calipers and slotted cross drilled rotors. |
