Loud whining noise
I have a bonestock s13 with a standard transmission that has been making a loud whining noise for almost a week now. It normally was the power steering making the noise beforehand but refilling it brought no luck. The noise happens throughout the whole time the motor is running and just gets louder as I accelerate.
It sounds like a supercharger. Anyone have any idead what is causing this noise? Ive replaced the tranny fluid and the power steering the other day. |

It could be the water pump, power steering pump, AC Compressor, input shaft or tail shaft bearing on the way out.
Does the noise go away if you press the clutch in an accelerate? |

You might want to replace your clutch fan. Sometimes they stay engaged and just keep spinning as fast as the engine is spinning.\

Okay that seems more like the problem since the belts and everything else seems fine. The fan also does delay a little. Ill try it out.
But checking where the sound came from, it sounded like it was coming from within the engine itself. Like that's where it was the loudest. Doubt that its a engine problem tho. |

Okay so after finally having time to work on my car, I replaced the belts, clutch fan, water pump, and checked for vacuum leaks. The car runs a lot more smoother but the whining is still there. Just not as noticeable. Anyone else have an idea of what may be causing this?

Get a stethoscope like the doctors use and while whatever it is is winding, touch around the different areas where pullies are. when you hear the sound amplified, that's your problem.
Seriously. They sell them at autozone. |
