sr help needed asap please look
hey guys heres the low down
I am moving my car from storage to storage. from my house to my parents. I tried starting it but the battery was half dead... So i jumped it from my truck. I fucked up my cables and some how managed to get them crossed. Any ways nothing electric worked after this untill i revved the motor out a little to about 3k and all the electronis came back. Now the motor will start and idel but will only rev above 2500 rpm with no load. once it is engaged in gear wont rev out and sounds like it has a step came well more so like the timing is off. I looked for fuses and found nothing so i figure the ecu is in some sort of safe mode. it is a stock sr 20det redtop and the ecu is #62 if that helps at all. thanks in advance. scott |

check your coil packs and all the connections and if you have any crimp connections cut it out and replace with a soldered connection
my car wouldnt rev past 3k i had bad connections and a bad coil pack (oh and a boost leak) |

probably blew a fuse to the alternator, or, if not then your alternator is fried. your battery isn't supporting the load needed to rev your motor. start with the simple stuff. i still don't understand how people hook up jumper cables backwards, even color blind people can't mess that up. seriously.

i got it all going again runs fine underload now. the only thing is the electronics will not start working untill i rev it a little to like 2500rpm but then everything is all good not sure i think it is a bad ground some where and the revving creats a little extra current enough to bond it again or something.
i know it is retarded hooking up the cables in reverse thanks for pointing that out boys. thanks for the help as well. |

do you get more than 9v to the battery with the motor revved? (13-14v is optimal)
if so, the regulator in the back of the alternator is probably fried or the coils in it are arcing.

yeah i got nine on the old battery have not tried the new one but image it would be the same since it is just the charging system. the car is running bad again so i am going to check the alternator fuse again but i think the alternator is probally fried. because the car ran perfect untill the battery lost charge about twenty mins

go get a charging system check done most places do it free (cuz if something is bad you might buy it there) But my alt (before i replaced it) was only putting out 40 amps... when it should be more like 80 amps ( p.s. try to avoid buying a used sr alt .. there is a reason its for sale)

alright so i got my car moved with no problem replaced the fuse and was getting 14v from the charging system it seemed to idel low so i adjusted it and all was good. I drove the car for about two and a half hours no prblem. I stoped in at canadian tire for some fuel stabilizer the next day still no problems with the car untill on the way home. i was driving allong and it died. i pulled over and it would not start. it turns over and i can here the fuel pump pumping fuel. any ideas now i am stumped. The car did seem to turn over kind of slow though.
help is much appreciated thanks scott |
