high idle and check engine light issue

just rebuilt my KA to all stock. The motor runs and starts great but it automatically idles at 2k rpm and climbs to 2500 and stays there after awhile of running. the idle is smooth the whole time also. the check engine light comes on when going up to 2500 and stays on. I believe i have the timing set correctly at 20 when i set it i wasnt sure if the TPS needed to be connected or disconnected. i want to check the engine codes but forgot how to put the ecu into mode 3 so i can read the codes. any help is appreciated. thanks.

Simple fixes are Idle adjuster screw on pass. side by firewall, 'wiggle' or mess with MAF, clean, etc., Check the IACV-clean with throttle body cleaner....or the stupid EGR valve...always a problem

idle screw on iacv, maf, vac leak, or your throttle cable might be to tight ( the two nuts on the cable might be adjusted to high up) my friend adjusted his to high and couldnt figure out why the car was idling at 2800, make sure your touching the screw.

dual cam. And thanks for the input. I didn't have time today but I'll let you guys know how it goes and if I need more help. But for setting the timing does it matter to have the tps on or off? And how do you set the ecu to self diagnoistic mode
