Boozer would be a horrible addition - he's inferior to Gasol at PF and cannot play C better than Bynum.

He's a terrific scorer and rebounder, but is worthless defensively. He doesn't move that well and he doesn't block any shots. His passing isn't bad - otherwise he couldn't play for Sloan, but he's utterly redundant on the Lakers.

They really should be looking to get Haslem out of the deal, he'd be an awesome backup PF. He'd have to be the guy exiting Miami if they're going after either Boozer or Odom ( I see no way they'd get both, as that Yahoo! article suggests).

Boozer was never in talks to go to LA. It's Miami who wants him. Boozer is not needed in LA.

Boozer needs to play next to a defensive orientated center like a healthy tyson chandler, samuel dalambert, andris biedrens, etc. even a lesser pf/c type like joakim noah, spencer hawes. not a 3pt shooting center like okur.

he would kill if orlando got him, playing next to dwight howard.

I am beginning to think that mobile, athletic centers that rebound and defend are the new hot commodity.

Tyson Chandler was regarded as a bust (falsely) because he didn't score at all. Chris Paul showed that if you're athletic and understand the pick and roll, you can GET a big man points.

Biedrins went through the year with Ellis, Crawford, and Jack as his PGs and still scored double digits (11.9ppg in limited minutes). If he played 35-40 minutes with a true PG like Nash or Paul, he'd have 15-18. He's even better finishing than Chandler.

There are lots of scoring PF's now - many of them are thin and can score from the perimeter, some of them even board. But they really need a tag team partner to really own the frontcourt.

Gasol is helped by the bulk of Bynum, Garnett with Perkins; back in the day, Duncan and Robinson. You need TWO big men that complement each other.

The old prototype center was a guy over 7 foot with a back to the basket game that physically dominated the inside with size. Those do not exist anymore.

The new protoype has length, footspeed, soft hands and finishing ability, a willingness to rebound and the quickness to guard and help on the perimeter, as well as the recognition to provide weakside help and cover lots of territory. Healthy Chandler, Biedrins, and to a lesser extent Noah and Varejao all fit the bill.

If you don't have one of these guys and think u can win games with a Boozer, Amare, or Al Jefferson type of PF . . . you're mistaken.

saw lbj tape on yahoo. didn't look like a monster dunk, but it could be the crappy angles of the footage. just seemed like lbj rotated late on help defense while the guy was already in motion. probably hurt lbj's feelings, because he turned it over next possession.

congratulations to odom if he got 4yrs/40M. he held out and got his asking price, but pretty damn risky. but i think the lakers would try to get him back at all cost, maybe not at all cost like the $14M he made last season, but $10M for his services as a backup is not bad.

i'm pretty sure odom fucked himself and didn't take the offer earlier. i'd be surprised if he got close to what he was asking for and the length of the contract he wanted, but both him and the lakers probably compromised for more years, and a little bit over MLE, but not the 9-10M he wanted.

edit: looks like odom won. according to reports its up to $33M/3yrs, $33M/3yrs = $11M/yr. depends on what amount of the $33M is guaranteed and what other bonuses/requirements he must make to get the full $11M/yr. maybe its front loaded with Lakers' option for the fourth year at less money.

Per ESPN:

One source close to the process said that Odom will come away with a guaranteed $27 million from the new contract, matching the original value of the three-year, $27 million deal Lakers owner Jerry Buss pulled off the table earlier this month.

It's believed that the structure of the new contract calls for Odom to earn $25 million over the first three seasons, with the Lakers owing him a buyout of $2 million in the fourth year if they elect not to pick up their team option.

NBAPA needs to step up their cert. process. One semester of Sports Law made me a better agent than those fucks.
