I just bought a Buddy Club racing seat for my S13. Now I'm thinking about getting a 4 point harness. It's been brought to my attention that they can be dangerous without a roll cage... and someone mentioned a "20 degree rule." What do you guys think about using a Sparco 4 point camlock harness with that seat w/out a roll cage to mount it to. It looked like I'd have to mount it to the one seatbelt anchor down low for my right shoulder, and then the place that the upper seat swivles on for the left shoulder. What do you guys think?

Also, what about rails for the seat. Do the Buddy Club ones sit low?.. I also saw that you can use Sparco ones. What do you guys reccommend?

I've been eyeing the autopower roll cage, but don't have the cash to spend right now.

Real cages don't bolt in. If you are going to mount the harness without a cage, use the rear seatbelt bolt positions. Check with your local law enforcement about the legality of a 5-point harness in a street vehicle. Around me anything over a factory 3-point is illegal for use on the streets.

Putting in a bucket seat and harness with no rollbar is fuckin stupid. If you roll your car, you are supposed to be able to lean forward in your seat so that your head doesnt get crushed when the roof caves in. Now, if you are strapped to a non-reclinable seat with a four-point harness, you are stuck in the event of a roll-over. So, either keep the stock belts in until you can get a cage, or just get a hoop made for now, then get a full cage later.

i will help you out with harness advice since i asked a similar question a while back.

THE ONLY HARNESS TO USE ON A 240 WITHOUT A ROLLCAGE IS A SCHROTH RALLYE 3 / 4 (i think 3 fits our cars) they are designed to release the body from one strap, allowing you to move to the side and not take the weight of your upside down car on your head.

dont run any other harness without a cage, it IS dangerous. there is nowhere for your body to move out of the way in the event of a rollover, so u will end up with your head snapped off!

autopower is the rollcage i am planning on buying eventually, but for now i am going to get a pair of schroth harnesses, just FYI they are 150 per side, and there are seperate belts for either side, and it IS important to get the right harness installed on the right side.

i cant tell you anything about buddy club rails or seats, but if they are bottom mount, you wont be happy. if they are corbeau A4's installed into an S13 you will not be happy. even using the nice corbeau rails. my hair hits the ceiling, its SOOO high, and im only 5'9"

I've seen the Buddy Club rails, they're pretty low. Sidemount.

Using a set of fat 3" camlock belts without an anti-submarine belt and at least a roll bar is just stupid. If you're not going to commit to a roll bar and 5- or 6-point belts, get the 3/4-point Schroths, they're street legal (but still not a great idea for normal street driving) and they're reasonably safe for cars without roll protection.

Do not listen about the roll cage. How in the world does an autopower cage stiffen the car up if it bolts into points that dont match up with hard parts of the chassis? When you get a real rollcage, make sure to find one that welds up in places that actually will stiffen the chassis.

Thanks for the advice guys... but I'm still skeptical. Cars don't roll very often... but I see what you're saying. Does anyone have a link to those safe harnesses?

Ok I'm really confused...

I just checked out those Schroth Harnesses and don't see how they will help. I see that the two shoulder belts go down to a single point, then either bolt in with one strap, or branch back out into two straps to bolt in. How does that help you in the event of a roll over?

Sparco also makes harnesses that look the same to me, with the two shoulder belts going down to one strap to bolt in. Whats the difference?

Oh yeah, and is there any issue with me mounting them to the seat belt buckles?... or is there a 20 degree rule or something?

I have a Buddy Club seat, get a 5 point or 6 point. 6 Point just is a little more even. You have the hole for it already use it, you will thank yourself later (plug it in w/o it then tighten and you'll see).

I use G-Force 3" 5 point, no cage, ya I am living life on the dangerous side *knock on wood*. Stock seat belt will be useless with that seat depending on how it sits. Mine would not recoil if I moved foward.

Cage would have went in my car by now but I plan on getting a different car, so I just use the harness.

Buddy club seats work fine with sparco side mounts. I got tired of waiting for buddy club rails to come in. I think you can get the seat quite a bit lower than stock if you use the newer aluminum side mounts that has more adjustability. I've been running it on older sparco sidemounting for couple months now and its fine, just hard to get in because of those side bolsters
