S13 Ka24de-t questions!

Alright people so I bought a turbo kit from some guy on craigslist for my hatch. It was a steal so I had to get it. I got a walbro fuel pump, sr20 injectors, the turbo with manifold, downpipe, intercooler, and piping..for $300. The turbo is fine, no shaft play, and spools decently. Anyway, a buddy wants to charge me $300 to put it on. I know how a turbo bolts on and all, its self explanatory. But I've never done it. So the guy I bought the kit from said that the injectors and pump weren't installed. The engine eventually blew because the guy was pushing 8 psi daily, from what the owner told me. My question is, should I just bolt on the kit with out worrying about tune or fuel managment? Also. really dumb question..but does the hold on the down pipe made for the O2 senser? Sorry again, noobie here.

Well he's sort of some dude I met a couple weeks ago. He works on cars for a living and has a shop. Pretty nice guy but I guess he's out there to make a buck. I dont really want to spend what I paid for the turbo in labor as well. Cheap build for me lol.

Not trying to be a douche, but if your not willing to put the time into the work(which includes the research) then be willing to put the money into someone that has. I have been working on a turbo build for the last 6-8 months if not more and I don't post a question until I think I have honestly exhausted all my resources. It is a real good way to get flamed. I can tell you from all my research, it seems the tune is one of the most important things. You can spend 3 grand on the bottom end and go cheap on the tuning and it will last a week, or you can spend whats needed on a tune and a stock bottom end can last years. For what your doing a simple ROMTUNE should be fine

This thread is really dumb and you need to do some research since you really seem to have no clue what your getting into. I'll be nice and help you out though.

The kit that you have looks like a standard t25/t28 setup. Its a little hard for me to tell exactly what your turbo is from the pics but it looks like you have an ebay t28. Your downpipe does have a provision for the factory O2 sensor (Come on dude, you can see the threaded bung) but doesn't look like it has an extra port for a wideband. DO NOT bolt on the kit without any injectors or engine management or your motor will blow up exactly like the last owner's did. Since you're cheap I'm going to tell you to get an safc2 (not recommended but will work for a basic setup like yours) and use that to tune. Also you will want to reduce base timing by 3 or 4 degrees. For the base tune in the SAFC to get your car running use these parameters.

NE Points: 1000rpm, 2500rpm, 3000rpm, 3500rpm, 4000rpm, 4500rpm, 5000rpm, and 6000rpm
Throttle point: Low -10% High -43%
Low Throttle fuel correction: -25% across all NE points
High Throttle fuel correction: 1000rpm -17%, 2500rpm -17%, 3000rpm -16%, 3500rpm -15%, 4000rpm -15%, 4500rpm -15%, 5000rpm -15%, 6000rpm -15%
I assume you are using the stock MAF so set the MAF signal to 5 in 5 out.

That will safely get your car running so you can drive it to an shop and actually have it dyno tuned (will cost more then you paid for the kit). Also I noticed that you made no mention of oil feed and drain lines in your previous post. You will need to get those if you expect your turbo to last more then a few seconds. The guy that offered to install it for $300 actually offered a pretty fair price considering the work involved (pulling the oil pan and welding the oil bung) but I never trust other people to work on my car. My advice is to sit on the kit until you have a good understanding of what you are doing since it seems like you don't have a clue right now.

Anyway thats all I got, my car made 223hp and 234tq with a similar setup to yours. Remember KA-T isn't for everybody and if you're not willing to do the research and work required you should just go buy an SR since it will be way more reliable then a hack job ka turbo. I think I just won the award for spoon feeding but I'm board lol.
