-Kimmel does an entire show as Leno and showing the world how unfunny Leno "shtick" really is.
-Kimmel then proceeds to go on Leno's show and tea-bag Leno in front of the whole world to see.

That about sums it up.

First off Leno did indeed intend to retire and then changed his mind and asked for a Prime Time show. No one ever heard about a daytime show.

So NBC on the news of the retiring smartly not wanting to make the same mistake they did before with Letterman promotes Conan to his rightful heir. Read this as only a possibility due to the fact that They may have knowingly made other contractual deals with Leno.

Now because Leno changed his mind and NBC capitulated and gave him a prime time show, writers and producers for both drama and comedy/drama screamed bloody murder. It was completely up ending the later prime time time slot with a format that had never been placed their and could have disrupted the programming side of the industry had not Jay failed so miserably.

Now there is a possibility that Jay most likely worked NBC hard on a contractual obligation(i.e. if the prime time show fails Leno can have back his Tonite show slot) . So they had to give him his old time slot back otherwise Leno would have sued NBC. NBC feeling Leno had more clout than Conan told Conan to capitulate to this. Of course Conan like Letterman before him bails.

This is not the first time NBC has managed to make a Fiasco of late night TV. When Letterman who was the rightful heir to the Tonight Show got past over by NBC execs for Leno( I think out of fear he was to edgy). Letterman who was a a very good friend of Johnny Carson and the one Johnny wanted to see in his place, called up Carson and asked him what to do. Carson said walk and Letterman did, just like Conan is doing.

Bravo to NBC for fucking up on the Tonite show once again.

Universal Studios president and COO Ron Meyer was among those involved in the talks, the person said.

The focus has been on how much O'Brien, who has time left on his NBC contract, would be paid for leaving and what limits NBC may put on his future employment at another network.

The progress in negotiations didn't stop O'Brien from once again hammering NBC in his "Tonight" monologue.

"In the press this week, NBC has been calling me every name in the book. In fact, they think I'm such an idiot they now want me to run the network," O'Brien said Friday.

Other late-night hosts, including David Letterman on CBS, have been using their shows to crack jokes about NBC's late-night mess and the players. On Friday, Leno fired back.

"Even Dave Letterman is taking shots at me, which surprised me. Usually he's just taking shots at the interns," Leno said, a reference to the CBS host's admission last year that he had affairs with women who worked on his show.

Letterman and Leno had vied for "Tonight" after longtime host Johnny Carson retired in 1992, and Leno won the hard-fought contest.

O'Brien landed "The Tonight Show" gig after successfully hosting "Late Night," which airs an hour later, since 1993. But after debuting last May, he quickly stumbled in the ratings race against Letterman.

Leno's prime-time weeknight show, which premiered last September, got its cancellation notice Sunday. Leno had reigned as ratings champ as host of "Tonight" but drew disappointing ratings with his experiment in prime time.

As a fix, NBC wanted to put Leno at 11:35 p.m. EST in a half-hour edition and push O'Brien's "Tonight Show" to 12:05 a.m. But O'Brien rejected the idea, saying he hadn't been given the necessary time or support to establish himself as host.

Fox executives have expressed their admiration for O'Brien but said they haven't taken steps to create a late-night show for him.

Shit, so it looks like he is leaving. The problem I have with this is that they probably wont allow him to take any of his material/skits with him.

I wonder if he'd be able to take his writers. He may be able to get ex-writers who worked for him before.

Well, whatever Conan does it will be good. Like was said before, he's naturally funny and knows how to write as he was one of the early writers for the Simpsons...and as a Harvard graduate he is a smart guy, too. NBC is really stupid to give him up for Leno.

The network wanted Conan to drop him from Late Night FOR A REASON.

I get that they're best buddies, but him being on the show makes me dislike it.

I like Andy, but not on the Tonight Show. I do believe that the show is less funny now that's he's on it. He tries to make things funnier than it should be and he seems to try to hard to be funny. He also talks over Conan sometimes and I think he takes away from the show a bit.

I loved it when Conan and Max would have those really awkward moments and just stare at each other for a good 30 seconds. Max is the man!

lol. You're like one of a few people on here that actually likes Leno. Leno's jokes aren't all that great, and most of his "comedy" is putting others down and making them look stupid. Headlines and Jay Walking are two good examples.

Conan might be obnoxious, but that's his style. He's a Harvard graduate, former writer for SNL AND The Simpsons. What does Jay have? Nothing that comes close to that.

Conan is a classy man. He's fighting for his employees severance pays as well, and this is part of whats keeping the exit deal from going through right now. Bravo, Conan!

Also, FOX is the most likely candidate for Conan. They can't "legally" announce or get into talks with him until he leaves NBC, but they have announced their interest.

Fox may be a good fit from a comedy perspective (Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama, That 70's Show, etc.)
