Yep, Norfolk is HUGE. They would get wrecked. Also, if they did send boats or ships to sit out in international waters off our territory, we would be tracking them LONG before they were in range to launch anything.

Seems to me to just be some goading. It doesn't take a genius to see that Americans think highly of our military. Maybe they want to provoke us and start something. Who knows?

however, i wouldnt blame it on the military itself. imo, the military is like a big ass spartan shield. its scary and strong, so u dont wana even try fucking with it. because if u do, u know it can be used as a weapon as well.

If China along with the countries that are keeping US afloat stop sending money, there will be nothing to pay for the military. The enormous military upkeep costs are among the main debt causes in the first place. If they wanted to take over, they could just cut US off and wait a decade.

As for this silly Iran thing, if they really tried anything, it would be a great excuse for everyone to gang up on Iran and get rid of it. Most of the world is sick of Iran and the Middle East in general.

Shit, over 2Billion people, how many pilots do you think they have and how much money do you think they have that they can punch out all these weapons. China has been investing more money into their military in the last 10 yrs, as much money the US was investing during the Cold War. Personally, I think they're covering their ass in case we decide to clear our debt by going to war with them.

I hate the Iranian gov't. They just make me look even stupider -.- Unfortunately the country is run by dickheads, but the people there are actually pretty damn cool. I used to visit family there when I was younger. I'd go around and people would ask where i'm from as I don't look familiar, and I was an instant rockstar cause I was American. The currency exchange rate is extremely beneficial as well, and there is amazing scenery.

This is a show of force by Iran. Obviously the Iranian navy doesn't come anywhere close to being a real military threat to the US Navy.

But that's not the point. Cruising their ships over to the Eastern Seaboard means that Iranian vessels are capable of extended operations.

Not really a CONUS threat, however if Iran decided to park some of their ships in the Gulf of Oman or the Suez Canal, it could certainly restrict and disrupt the movement of a lot of cargo...

The Iranian navy is not nuclear and thus needs fuel resupply in order to operate far from home for extended periods. This would be either expensive or impossible, depending on their logistical infrastructure.

Also, they've got ships with high seas interdiction capabilities, destroyers and such, but nothing that can project power onto land beyond perhaps a cruise missile (and an aged one, if any). Certainly no aircraft carriers, so all they can do is steam around and circle jerk. I suppose they could try to interefere with commercial traffic, but this would be inadvisable, to say the least.

It's an idiotic statement, Ahmadinejad is just trying to make himself look strong to his electorate. It isn't a serious military development by any stretch.

Frankly, if this actually occurred (unlikely) and I was an Iranian on one of those ships, I'd be scared shitless. They'd be *naked* out there, exposed to half a dozen means of annihilation, and at the beck and call of a madman who doesn't particularly value their lives. Honestly, if the ships WERE ordered here, I don't think that mass defection would be all that unlikely.

After reading this thread I can see that people truly don't understand how China does what it does.

Their money comes from manufacturing goods. They keep a highly favorable balance of trade by having low wages. They keep the wages low by devaluing their own currency. They essentially use US bonds to pay their bills.

Now why on earth would they cash in those bonds(making their goods to expensive) or worse yet attack us(we would never honor bonds and loans from an enemy nation)? That absolutely ruins the place they have carved out for themselves.
