Cool Castrol GTX is fine just fine

post in this thread if you think spending 30 bucks on a do it yourself oil change is fucking ludicrous.
post in this thread if you think the benefits of using synthetic are minimal at best.
post in this thread if Fram is good enough. you don't even need a wrench thanks to that awesome grip!

i'm seriously.

Ball bearing turbos love synthetic - journal bearings, especially old ones, are probably happier with heavier conventional.

I can never get the Fram filters off by hand, even after I relocated it. I use OEM Nissan filters for peace of mind

Crap, I didn't read the thread rules before posting.

Fram filters flow fine at first, and they filter very well. The problem with cheap paper filters though is that they don't flow or filter well after a while (particulates clog the filter element), so you should change them out more regularly (I change filters at every change anyway).

I'll never use anything other than Mobil 1 synthetic in my engines.

Fram filters are the worst filters ever made. Take one apart if you don't believe me however it's pretty much what I'm limited to on base and they've never really presented a problem for me. They are still the worst filter ever made though. Normally I change oil filters every two oil changed but when I use a Fram filter generally I change the filters out before I change the oil. Fuck those filters suck.

However my transmission loves Castrol GTX 20w-50 synthetic with anti sludge compound.

I10cruiser - 1500?! Quit wasting your money. You shouldn't need to change oil for 4,000-5,000 miles.

You actually buy oil and a filter and get dirty? You must own a money tree or something. You know you can go to Walmart and get an oil change with a new oil filter and air filter for like 13$, right?

Maybe in Kansas. Out here in California, Walmart charges about $30 for an oil change, It's ridiculous!

I've found my relocation kit to love sTp filters the best...Not sure why?

^^royal purple sucks wang anyways so you better change it often. bobistheoilguy.com

here a walmart oil change is 32.99 - same as jiffylube conventional.

on a NA car i'd run conventional if i didnt get syn at work (all we have at our dealership).

i cant use conventional in the 240 or i have to add oil all the time. with the german castrol i never need to add. I dont daily it tho - so it gets one oil change every 6 months (1000-1200 miles maybe - but thats mainly because of the type of use the car gets).

I ran conventional oil and Fram filters on my old engine. I never had any problems.

I don't like the Fram filters anymore because it looked like someone just threw some cardboard in there.

After the break-in period of my new engine, I started using synthetic and Nissan OEM filters.

^+1

I used to run Royal Purple, but after a short month of driving, my KA would get super noisy.

Switched over to Mobil1 synthetic, no problems ever since.

Running either Bosch or Mobil1 filters as well.

OEM/FRAM = Fail

What is this, changing your filter every two oil changes? Thats more important than changing the oil itself. I remember hearing a story about Richard Petty, and how he never actually changed the oil in his personal car but just changed the filters. Don't know if it's true or not.

Oh, and Fram for life. It's all my family has ever used and we have had vehicles that we bought new off the lot and had over 200k on them and were running strong when we sold them. By the way, where the hell are you getting the old school cans of oil?

Conventional oil sucks. Even the good shit leaves carbon deposits inside the motor. Fram also sucks. Crappy spring washers and shitty paper. People love to talk shit about royal purple, but I have yet to see any conclusive proof that it is any worse then any other oil. I used to use mobil one, but the royal purple keeps my timing chain noise quiet for longer. Don't waste your money on k&n or mobil1 oil filters, just get wix. Oil is the most important thing for the life and performance of your engine, you are an idiot if you cheap out on it. And yes I do think that richard petty did not actually change his oil, just his filters. On a street car you never get the oil hot enough to actually break it down on a mollecular level, it just gets dirty. My old next door neighbor used to do that, he used to be a toolmaker at an aircraft company. He bought the truck new, changed the oil once with synthetic, and cahnged the filter every 3,000mi. The truck had well over 200,000mi on it when he moved away and was still rinning strong.

ok my experience w/ royal purple is that it is an awsome oil. for the first 2000 miles after that it pretty much turns into water. it's a great "race" oil for people who actually race their car and change the oil every few weeks. after 2 oil changes w/ royal purple i went to moble one and never had that problem again but i did feel the difference. you can actually make more efficient power w/ poyal purple but it doesn't last. point being if you race your engine and change the oil every few times you run or race than use royal purple. if not, use moble one. and i use factory nissan filters. 5 bux for the part that was designed for your car is well worth it.

are you guys serious?? you should change the filter every time you do the oil. depending on some engine setups, you still have like 1/4 quart left in the filter. so you're mixing old oil with new oil

and just to echo everybody else... who doesn't change their filter at every oil change? that's more retarded than 30 dollar oil. and that's also why i like fram. they're four bucks.

maybe i'll switch to STP filters. their logo is more old skewl.

HM..when i first bought the car i changed the oil i used castrol conventional with fram filter (only reason cause i went broke after buyin the car) FAIL!!
i now use Castrol Syntec motor oil with MOBILE 1 oil filter FTMFWBBQ every 2 months call it what you want but ive been doin this for about 2 years havent ran into any problems

to be honest use what you use if it hasnt broken down on you than you must be doing something right!! dont go breakin your wallet just b/c others have used a certain product!!! id rather pay $30 to do my own oil change than to have some punk that works at walmart change it...why spend so much on buyin aftermarket parts/JDM parts/ to only pay "cheap" on a simple oil change if thats the case start buyin ebay parts!!(THATS JUST ME...YOUR NOT ME..SO DONT HATE!!)

this thread is great for broke ass people with busted ass 15 year old KA's. if you put serious money in building your motor you should know about using quality lube and decent filtration is a must.

sure, in my pos Ka coupe that i daily i run rotella with wix.
something my ls1 will NEVER experience.
