Took a ride in a Porsche Caymen S yesterday

Impressions:

Car was blood red with black 20" TechArt wheels. Chassis was pretty solid and the motor was torquey. It sounded like a huge vacuum cleaner with the motor right behind the seats. It was pretty quick. Felt like a 240sx with an s14 sr boosting ~12 lbs. but with a lot more torque and not as free revving. It had the ~$1100 leather dash option. Interior felt plasticky.

IMO the fun could be bought for much less and isn't worth the $70k that my friend payed for it. That's not including the paranoia of driving a new blood red Porsche on the streets. Reminded me of when I had my s14 haha

Anyway, feel free to post any comments from similar experiences.

Edit My bad it's spelled Cayman

I've driven my friends Carerra 4S.
Completely stock

AHAHAHAHA

That thing hugged a 60mph curved doing 140-145mph.
Not a strike of fear in me while he was telling me I can go a bit faster.

Still not worth the $120k he forked over, but I was KINDA impressed. I wasn't blown away.

He said that's not the best car he's driven/owned.

MUST BE NICE TO HAVE A FATHER THAT OWNS A BMW DEALERSHIP.

bastard.

Usually, if they have a $100k car, they could care less
about a $2000 240sx.

I've don't understand these turds. Why spend all of that money on a Euro exotic. I'd just buy a Supra, NSX, Skyline even an S14 that i can mod for a fraction of the price. I guess some people are born to show people up.

for most sports car owners its not about the speed as much as its about the status.....ppl dont buy an nsx or an s14 because what CEO wants to pull up to dinner in a 10+ year old nissan?? obviously if you can afford a 100k+ car then money is really no object, so why settle for some japanese beater from the early 90s? Im sure the loud ass exhaust and BOV will go over huge with the country club as the valet tears off your front bumper trying to park it....anyone who says they would take this and that jdm car blah blah blah over a porsche/ferrari/lambo/whatever is lyyyyyying

True, as I would rather build my own car also. I say that

My dad is 43 and has a 94 Supra. It takes 100+octane gasoline and a new Lexus IS. He just said, that some people get bored of doing mods to their cars like we do now. His boss told him he can't drive the Supra to work because it gives off the wrong idea to clients.

I like expensive cars.

It's called having ambition.

It's a lot easier to have a stock nice car than a modified regular car for daily driving usually.

If you crash a Vette, insurance will probably give you a fair price. If you crash a 240sx, you're probably going to pull a knife on your insurance rep and spend a month haggling with them.

Personally I could never bring myself to waste that much money on a car. My mentality would probably be different if I was born into money, but I wasn't. Whether it be an overpriced car or a huge house, if you can have the same comforts and satisfaction for way less then why are people willing to spend triple or more? Basically just to say look how much better I am than you.
I'm not saying people should be buying the cheapest things they can find, but there are nice things, and then there are overpriced things where people just pay for the status.

Here's a pic of my friends car:

He was KILLING it in mortgages when it was good. Wheels are 8.5x20 and 11x20. Forgot the tire sizes.

Those wheels are unnecessarily large that it looks funny with the rotor gap.

rant There are two types of porsche owners. The guys who just wants status street car types and the hardcore racers. Porsche hardcore racers do NOT fuck around. My buddy who has more money then I don't know what, will drop 40k on his engine alone which has a life rated in hrs, yes hrs not miles, just to get an extra second or two at the glen. Yet he paints his 911 himself with a harbor freight paint gun. He says why waste money on paint when you can buy race tires. He drives a diesel truck daily and you would never guess he was a porsche guy until you brought up racing of some sort.

eulalia I agree with you I respect the guy who builds and mods his car vs the hippie who thinks his (insert sports car) he just bought is going to hang at the road coarse.

Don't get me wrong if you are not going to track your car and just want a good looking car for the street you can't go wrong with a caymen and the like. It's just not me, to me it makes no sense to have a sports car for the street. I only run hard from 3:30am-4:30am couple nights a weeks in the mountains 45min from my house. Other than that the only place I can run hard safely is at the track. So unless you plan on doing the above you are only buying your sports car for status(that is fact), nothing wrong with that but to me it just seems like a waste. Yes I ride a pedal bike to work year round and have a wife so maybe that why a street sports car makes no sense to me. /rant

what were we talking about. lol sorry about my sports car rant.

Your buddies caymen really does look great my evo is the same color combo. Like said already though the wheel/rotor ratio looks way off.

What size tires is he running?

I agree, but there is also something else at work here. If you have the money, but choose not to buy X, then you're frugal.

If you don't have money, and rationalize yourself so that X is no longer desirable, then you're just a broke person complaining on Zilvia.

There is a difference.

I drove (...valet parked ) a Boxster once, and I could not, for the life of me, find the mechanism to adjust the damn seat. And the lady who owned the car was, like, 5-foot-nothing. I had to drive that thing like a fucking school bus, pressed up against the steering wheel, with my head scraping the roof.

And it was an automatic.

More reliable, because face it, a car from the factory is warranties, wheras you hook up one of these cars, even if it is street legal, your going to have little issues at the least.
besides
I roll up in a Porsche, you roll up in a 10 second s14.
Who do you think the girl is looking at?

the cayman is the slow one?

I would say a porshe gt3 is well worth the money

it drops panties.

all over the place.

doesnt matter if it's a tenth or so slower than a gtr to bavarian bi-curious bombshells.

I always wanted to race one of these guys....the only guy that humored me the past year was a guy in a FORD GT, but we ran into traffic during the pull
