SR Power FC basetune question....

So I recently bought a Power FC, and i was wondering if the basetune it comes with is the same/similar to the factory ecu. Or is the basetune just enough to limp the car to a tuning shop.

Basically, i want to run a stock SR with an untuned PFC. Would it be safe for the track, or am i going to blow something up?

(P.S. currently my motor is not stock, but i will need to return it to stock in order to diagnose a problem i am having with my idle)

It's fine to drive around on but I def wouldn't take it to the track. The base tune runs very rich so your gas mileage is gonna be shitty. Either leave the stock computer in it or get it tuned.

Its temporary, and i don't really feel like shelling out another 300$ for a tune. especially for a stock car.

the car is track only so i don't really care about gas mileage. The problem is, my harness has been custom made to run a pfc d-jetro, so i have no wires for a maf( it runs a map and an iat instead). if i wanted to run a stock ecu i would have to tap off the back of the ecu plug and run new wires.

Heh.. my buddy ran his without a tune for 2 years on stock settings. Stock motor, header, dp, cat back, intercooler, z32 maf.. basically anything you can bolt on. Tracked it, drove it daily.. still has perfect compression lol. The stock map on a stock stock motor is supposed to be very similar to the OEM ecu's.. or so I heard. Low range was a bit more lean, and high end was a bit more lean if I remember correct. $300... cheap cheap cheap.. I drove 6 hours and paid $500 to get a gangster tune on a dynodynamics dyno. haha. worth it.

I know. PFC base map is very similar to OEM ECU map. If you want to take the risk its up to you.. is what Apexi would say lol. Like I said before.. my buddy beat on his car that had all of those bolt ons.. and it still runs fine.

i dont know about you guys but i actually dyno'd my car on the stock map (rb25det) and it was SUPER rich. base run was only 185whp. after we tuned it we got 288whp. the base map sucks. im pretty sure its designed so u dont blow ur motor, and so that u can drive it to go get it properly tuned. other than that its wack. get it tuned. whats the point of getting the pfc if your not going to get a tune for it?

My car had major idle issues, and a shop talked me into buying a PFC so they could tune it out.... didn't work.

1 year later, i just figured out my idle issue. this is what was wrong...

-Bad Throttle position sensor (4 days to figure out)
-Bad Mass air flow sensor (1 day to figure out)
-Improperly installed camshafts (1 year to figure out)
and the car never threw a single code. wtf?

anyway, in the diagnosis process i re-did the entire engine wiring harness, when i removed the wires for the maf and ran wires for a MAP sensor and an IAT sensor (d-jetro doesn't use a maf)and wrapped the whole thing back up as one. Basically my harness is only set up to run a power FC D-Jetro, I cant just plug in my stock ecu and go.

advice?

Car had three problems, bad maf, bad tps, bad mechanical timing(not electrical cas timing).I fixed the first two but couldn't figure out the timing issue, so i brought it to a shop.

They diagnosed it and tested almost every single part and wire, all good. They told me they could tune it out, so i bought the pfc, but when they tried to tune it they couldn't (because it had bad mechanical timing and know one knew) so they put it back to base tune.

From exprience don't drive for an extended period of time with the base MAP. The money you spend it gas you could have someone tune it for you.

I'm lost is the mechnical timing fixed yet? If they knew what the problem was why didn't they just correct it and tune accordingly?

ya i just fixed the mechanical timing a few days ago, i never knew that's what it was, i kinda stumbled upon it by accident.

I brought it to 2 different shops and spent thousands of dollars trying to fix it, but no one could figure out what was wrong. the car has been sitting for more than a year because of it.

Today I ended up rewiring my harness to except the stock ecu and maf, but it was late so i will have to wait until morning to start it. im keeping my fingers crossed.

so now that you fixed the mechanical timing, is the shop that recommended the PFC to you going to hook u up with a tune? u think thats the least that they can do for a misdiag and recommending you buy a $800ish part that didnt fix the problem.

tell me about it....actually the PFC cost me 1,300$ because it was the d-jetro version (no maf), that $$$$ REALLY hurt too, i just kept telling myself it would fix the problem. I wish they would hook me up with a tune, if only they where that cool, but everyones out to make money now days.

*its is only enough the start and drive onto a transport to a tuning shop.
*Do not track the car, it might blow up.
*no can leave everything modified and have the car tuned without making it stock. It will be a waste of time and money. if anyone told you that then they do not have SR20DET experience. Dont waste you time and have some shop say they are experienced and actually mess it up. Time is money and messed car is more money.

you need a dyno, and it would help if the instructions didn't only come in Japanese.
