Map Light Install

*SEARCHED 4 pages of google results but no luck*

Anyone ever put a map light into a base model s14? It looks like it has three pressure clips that just hold it against the head liner. Does the headliner have a female end to recieve these clips or do they just hold themselves against the liner with pressure?

Here is an ebay listing that shows the clips on the under side of the map light, looks like there is three on two sides of the light. Makes me wonder if some clips arent missing or apart of the head liner.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221730972096...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I was going to measure and cut the hole in my headliner and make a jumper from my dome light. Anyone ever try this? My car may be wired for it anyway. The first owner ordered an LE but with no leather, sunroof, lsd, abs. It does have cruise, tilt power everything but alot of LE options are missing. I have checked the vin and the manufacturer codes and it all decodes correctly and title clearly says LE.

Id like to do this without changing the hole headliner if the light is held in with pressure versus female clips in liner I should be able to.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

S13s just clip into the structural support.

S14s "should be" the same concept. The headliner does not assist in retaining the map light.

so then all the cars would have the area for the clips inside the roof support correct?

I don't see why not.

One of 2 options.
#1 pull down the headliner and take a look.
#2 Google around for some pictures to avoid having to pull down the headliner.

I did this mod on my s14 a while back. Of course this will only work for non-sunroof s14's. I retro-fitted 94-01 acura integra map light. I will post a picture this weekend as my car is park at my house in Pennsylvania. Below is the link I followed from one of the Honda forums.

Im all about OEM goodness. I am hoping to put in a map light from an s14 not from any other vehicle.

I have done alot of looking over the last few days and I am fairly sure the map light gets wedged in on one side to a hole cut in the roofsupport then the otherside has a piece of metal that when shoved into place adds tension that holds the whole unit into the roof support.

So it should be as simple as tracing a pattern and then cutting it out of the roof headliner. Sending power and ground to the unit and vwola map light.

I have one on order right now so Ill be messing with it during my rebuild. 8K in and still going....

The light just clips into the roof support and power can be tapped off of the dome light

Is that metal ring on the roof or on the headliner?

I figured it was part of the roof support and thats where it clips in.

I got my light and some piaa xtreme white bulbs for both the map light and the dome light. Gunna install it after the car comes back from frame shop.

The measurments help alot. Thanks!!!

That metal ring is the middle roof support, it should already be cut like that. Those measurements were more for the headliner cut and just to give you an idea of where it is. Best of luck with the install!

Yeah I was using the measurments as a guide and I wanted to clarify the roof hole instead of a retainer or ring on the headliner. Looks like Im good to go. Ill post back once the car is finished with the rebuild and this part goes in.
