Never had real sushi. Just the china buffet style. I stopped eating it though because I would like not to shit my lungs. There aren't any sushi places near me, I would probably have to go to ATL for that.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-dining-r.../query:langham dining room The Michelin Star does rate US eateries, albeit it is limited in geographic scope. Here in Los Angeles & in Norcal (mostly San Francisco & Napa) we have a couple places too. I'm not a huge fan of the Michelin Star rating. I don't like the fact that they limit themselves to regions. I think there is a definite bias in favor of French cooking and more expensive tasting dinner type ordeals. There have been a couple places where I think the ratings were over-rated (Wolfgang Puck's joke of a restaurant 'Spago' got 2 stars some time ago iirc). 'The French Laundry' in Napa CA while excellent, does not deserve 3 stars. They are doing the same old, year in, year out. Service can be inconsistent from courteous to snooty depending on your server. I could go on, but it would be boring and very subjective. Other times, they do get it dead on. Manresa in Los Gatos, CA (my current fav) fully deserves the 2 stars it gets. Almost everything is done well, including exceptional wine pairings. There are few occasional misses in some dishes, but they take chances with new ideas. Also dead on with some other spots such as Aquerello in San Fran, Melisse in Los Angeles, etc. That being said, the Michelin Star ratings are infact a better indicator of quality than say Zagat, & sites like Yelp or Chowhound. I would use at as 1 way to find out about restaurants, but not the end be all judge of good food. The 'James Beard Award' is also pretty good. Their best suggestion was 'Clio' in Boston. I was very happy with that meal there. Tasting menus need not be dreadfully expensive. The cheapest tasting menu (and my fav Japanese restaurant right now) 'Wakasan' in Los Angeles, does a $35 Izakaya style 6-course menu that changes all the time. a good Sapporo or Ebisu is a good substitute for wine pairing. Both Voltaggio brothers were on the show. You're talking about Michael, who ended up winning the thing. I was talking about his brother Bryan. $35 for Omakase is a fucking steal. I'd be there once a week. Anyway, to the guy who's never had "real sushi".....make it yourself. Most sushi sold in the US is from frozen fish anyway, even some of the really great stuff, and so there's no reason you can't just have some shipped to your house. Don't do any exotic preparations, just learn how to make a good balanced sumeshi (sushi rice) and then make Chirashi (sashimi on top of rice). It requires only the rice, sushi vinegar (just get the pre-mixed stuff), the fish, and a sharp knife, really. |

Chicken wings has been my thing lately. I eat'em like once a week it seems. I just can't get enough of them right now.
My favorite Sauce in the world is BW3's Spicy Garlic. My favorite wing is from a place right in the heart of the dirty dirty, aka 'Stallis aka West Allis, WI called Magoo's. This place cooks THE best wing I've ever had. The only thing that was holding it back from utter epicness was that it is a drier wing and I prefer a saucier wing. SO one day my buddy and I go there armed with a bottle of Spicy Garlic and it was like heaven itself was visible from our bar stools. The combination was so incredible perfect. So now we bring in a bottle every time we go.

I like sushi. I eat it at least 2-3 times a week, sometimes more.
And then I kinda got a tatto of a sushi roll. I thought it was funny as hell, becasue I'm a goofy guy. But others that don't know me that well don't seem to think so. lol I kind of have this thing for raw fish. lol |
