What else is wrong with the car?

Gas tanks are no problem, get a stock one from a junkyard or if you are making a track car, just go get a fuel cell and put it in the trunk.

In order to consider worth, you have to say what is valuable to you. Time? Money? What do you value? Why are you asking questions that no one can answer?

If you're a good fabricator, I would say fabricate a fuel cell. It would be cheaper than trying to repair a broken tank.

If you're not and don't have money to spend, then I would say either replace the tank with a used one or try to pull the old tank out and fix whatever is broken.

You may also want to reline the interior of the tank if you're going to reuse a stock tank.

Not easy to repair a plastic tank. Have to drop it anyways.

Get a fuel cell and run a external pump FTW.

FYI, fuel cells are street legal provided you use an unleaded fuel filler neck and you retain your evap vent line.

And of course you have to mount the cell securely.

upgrade to a fuel cell if u can, but you can swap out fuel tanks, a friend of mine has already changed it twice, just go to a junker or buy from someone parting out its just bolt out the old bolt in the new really

I think everyone is missing the point here.

The gas tank sits underneath the car. If the kid is unhappy with the way it looks "when you open the cap", he's probably talking about the fuel door and vent tube, perhaps? If so, the tube is replaceable in less than 10 minutes, without dropping the tank. The door and tube fitting can be replaced easily too.

*If* there was enough damage to hit the tank and make it unusable I'd suspect the car itself was not repairable. Of course with the poor description we may all be on the wrong track.
