The motor is a prep'd S14 SR20 with front, rear main seals replaced, new gaskets and new RTVs everything except headgaskets and other internal stuff.

I understand that it is necessary to cut the fuel and prime the motor, turbo and starter a few cranks before actually fire up the engine. There is also a number of ways and different motor oils that people suggested to use in a sequence of oil change in 20 miles then 100 miles then 1000 miles.

I'm ordering Amsoil 10w-40 Synthetic Motor Oil (for older engines), Amsoil EAO oil filter and Amsoil 75W-90 Gear Oil MTG

Is it better to break-in with cheaper oils and filters like non-synthetic oils and OEM filters? Some people use non-synthetic oil for break-in but I know my motor previously used Redline synthetic before the swap.

What procedures and motor oils do you sugguest to use after a swap? Also, should anything neccesary be done to the tranny?

Other than the oil seals, it does not sound like you did anything to the motor.

You only need to prime the oil pump if the oil has been completely drained, like when the motor is completely new or when you do a complete teardown.

From what you did, it doesn't sound like you need to prime the oil pump, although it doesn't hurt to turn the oil pump a few times before firing it up.

Since you did nothing internal, this is not needed.

Other than a complete teardown and rebuild, nothing special. Give time for the RTV to cure, and just treat it like a normal oil change.

^I agree^ You didn't do anything that needs "breaking in". When I did my motor swap all I did was change the oil about 3 times in 2 weeks to get it all flushed out. Of course you'll want to take it easy for a period of time just to make sure the motor is mechanically sound.

as for the tranny, it is manual (bought from bicanek). I was told that the tranny was bought with ~27k miles on it and sat in the garage for 1-2 years. Any precaution I should beware of?

make sure theres oil in it...if there is, drain it...put fresh in and enjoy...

Sounds a nice thing to know, but I think, by shifting through the gears and turning the shaft, you could check the gear teeth too.

I have done checking the gears and they seem fine. I heard somewhere that there is button you should press on the tranny to make it in neutral. Can anybody confirm this?

Since the tranny has been sitting in the garage for a period of time, should I change the front and rear seals?

its a used engine

rebuilt it completely and then ask about break in process.

as for the tranny goes
its used to
put oil in and drive
changing seals sure why not. its a easy job.
i put a used trans in my car and changed the seals and bellhousing. then i drove on the track all day about hour later. break in?

break it in with boost. like a man.

Yup, you change the oil a couple of times to get as much of the crap out of the engine. You gotta realize that these engines have been sitting in junkyards or what not for years. You got all kinds of crap in there, oil that hardened, crap that fell in there, etc...only way to get it out is flushing it out with oil. Use cheap oil, change it at atleast 2x then go use what ever oil you prefer. I usually do 3 at 20 miles, 50 miles, 500 miles, then do regular intervals. Tranny, I'd change that atleast once.
