I have a friend who is contemplating getting a 240. However he was wondering which one was better for the sake of performance and the best to build on. This decision has nothing to do with cosmetics, he just wants to know the best to build on. Do both have LSD, is one stronger than the other in certain areas. What are their differences as far as strengths and weaknesses. What about weight difference and so forth. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

LSD was an option on both. s13 would obviously be cheaper. so instead of paying 10k for a stock s14 your friend can pay 5k for a stock s13 and put that 5k into an sr. I'm not 100% on this but I think the s13 has more potential in cornering abilities but the s14 stock comes with a better suspension...I don't have that backwards do I? I dono which one weighs more but I know the s13 hatch weighs a bit more then the coupe. Hope that helps a little.

S14's have a softer, more comfortable stock suspension...the S14 has a stiffer chassis, but some strut tower bars for the S13 should pretty much equalize that. S13's generally weigh slightly less, but weight differences are minimal. The great thing about the S13 is you can buy one for around $3K if you look hard enough...and you can spend the money you save on upgrades. Do a search on the forums...this topic has been covered several times.

the cars are basically the same.
a few major differences: -there are 250,000 s13s and only 30,000 s14s -s14s look classier, s13s look meaner -s13s are way cheaper -s14s have way nicer interiors if you're gonna upgrade a lot of parts, then you don't need to worry about suspension differences, etc. |

s14's also get 16" alloys that can accomodate a 300zx brake swap and a bottom end that is strong enough to make over 300 whp with a bolt on turbo. Weight difference, IIRC, is about 75 lbs. b/n the coupes (a bit closer with the hatch). LSD is the holy grail for both, but can readily be added - good luck finding it! Also, s14 SE/LEs get 5 lug hubs.
