S14 door lock cylinders - no mounting tab!
I just bought a complete lock set from a 1995 240SX. The problem is the door lock cylinders don't have the tab that holds them in place. All the S14 doors at my house have the tab and so do all the ones with photos on eBay. Nissan FAST only shows one part number for S14 Keyless Door Locks, so I'm confused. The seller says, "They didn't have that tab...they were held by a 'clip' kinda like metal wire clip...spring type clip...like a key chain ring clip." He went on the tell me it's impossible to take them off without twisting them. What am I missing here?
Never mind. After figuring out the answer to my question, I moved the lock internals from the new locks to the tabbed lock cylinders housing. Problem -> Solution. Last edited by teddyjr; 12-13-2013 at 05:59 AM.. |

Do you have any pictures of how all your stuff came together? How does it looked installed properly? I am having an issue with my door lock cylinders after I got the car back from paint and body, they took the door apart for paint and apparently didn't put it back together right.. my key pushed the passenger door lock cylinder back into the door, and realized the driver side had the same problem (both were fine prior to p&b).. the wire keychain thing you are talking about i have and am interested to see how you went about fixing your problem.. i figured they just didnt put a bolt through the bracket coming off the locking cylinder (circled in the picture)... but when i took what i thought to be the bolt for the bracket, i found out that it was to short to go through the bracket back into the hole it came, and it was to narrow (didnt thread into the hole on the bracket)... i included a picture of both driver side and passenger side because i had taken off the tab plate already... any information or pictures will help. thanks!

Lock Cylinders
My setup is golden now after enough digging. I'll be happy to help you out later tonight or by morning at least. I'm at work but I can take some photos of a setup that's out of the car for you to use for reference. I know it can be really frustrating!

Door Locks!
Here are a bunch of photos of my locks and handles. Yours doesn't have the alarm switches but you can get the idea. The main issue I see is the lock cylinders are supposed to go into the handle before the handle goes into the door.
If you look carefully at your car you will see a gap under the nut that retains the handle in the door shell. That's where the tab goes. On mine you can see how long the stud is and in your photo the nut is near the end of the stud. In your case it seems like you have early (1995 OBD1) handles because you have the spring retainer. Sometimes I think USDM S14s were factory assembled with whatever was in the wheelbarrow at the time. Mine doesn't need those since I abandoned the 95 tab-less lock cylinders in favor of the tabbed housings. Those springs are a tough item to find since they're always rusted away. I've also attached a link to a useful post. At the beginning of the thread you can see how the handle comes out. Maybe it will help. Good luck! Just remember when you're working inside the door, do it in well-lit conditions. Also, be patient. None of these parts require pushing and pulling. It all comes apart sensibly - without a hammer.
