fiberglass vs uerothane front bumper
*Not sure if this is the right section or not so sorry if it isnt*
*And sorry if there is a thread allready discussing this issue* Anyways this is a drunken argument between me and some freinds. The argument is that a fiberglass bumper will protect better in a clipping with a hay bail better than a uerothane bumper. A buddy sais the fg bumper will disperse energy away from the intercooler and the only thing that gets damaged is the bumper. I say the uerothane bumper will hold up better and protect better then the fg bumper. Both bumpers will be held up by zipties which in both cases the zt's will break the bumper loose. I know plenty of people have had incidents with hay bails etc. Id like some other feedback to help prove either point. Thanks |

Another argument by my buddy is that the urethane will bend in causing damage to the intercooler no matter where the bumper is hit. Because simple physics is to much for my small mind again im asking the zilvia community

Well... The Fiberglass bumper won't break if its reinforced with JB weld and Bondo. Its indestructible. I say you try it out and see who's the better man.

lol OP, idk about your discussion but from an everyday/drifting perspective Fiber glass < urethane fiber glass is itchy and a huge bitch to work with to repair bumpers. FRP cracks all the time, mine's cracking and started cracking from when i put it on, so it's kinda annoying unless you deal with it Urethane, more often than not, is oem quality. You can jump on urethane, twist it, run over it all you want and you'll see little damage done. It lasts far longer than frp. Only upside, fiberglass aero is a dime a dozen (not really but kinda) - Urethane usually costs more because of the process it takes or some shit

urethane definitely greater then FRP IMO... but its all really preferrence. Urethane is extremely flexible and durable as for the frp it also can be really flexible and strong if its top quality made. I use to make frp parts with a friend and the pieces we made were really light weight frp and we would be able to jump on them, twist them and bend them to the max and the parts wouldnt break or crack. But at the end either part when put to its test there will be damage regardless.

If you're hitting something hard enough to fuck up an intercooler it will get fucked up regardless of whether or not the bumper is made of urethane or fiberglass.

I was once towed my car and the tow hook bent the bumper 5 inches up, now you try to do the same with the fiberglass bumper. Good luck.

To get back on topic, question is which will protect inter-cooler or whatever you have behind the bumper. Truth is neither one, they are not design to protect anything, but rather are for looks and aero. If you can't understand that, then look at older cars. All you see is metal bars, front and back. That is actually a bumper. These days, cars have covers over bumpers/crash bars.

but urethane bumpers dont come in cool designs and shit. If someone makes a bn sports Type IV body kit in full urethane, i'd gladly pay a million dollars for that.
