i cant seem to find an easy way to get out the drivers console, or whatever its called, the plastic trim around the gauges with buttons on the sides. has anybody successfully removed it without breaking?

easiest way i have done it in a s13 is to unbolt the stearing column.. 2 14mm or 17mm bolts IIRC, they go from the floor up to the cross bar. dropping the column gives you enough room to slide it out without having to "bend" it around the stearing wheel/column.

I did it last night, and i suggest lowering the steering column if you ever do it again.

It makes life much easier

just in case you wanted to know what i did

I got the LED's from a GB at nissanpacific.com
Heres a link to the page:
http://nissanpacific.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1833

They're a replacement, and the bulb number is 194.
For the S13 you only need 3

I was surprised that the bulbs in the cluster are the exact same as the JDM turn signals. Heres a pic of mine.

Its much brighter in person

All you need to know about the LED gauge clusters:

http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...+gauge+cluster

and

http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...+gauge+cluster

Lots of good information in those two threads.

About getting that piece out, I too, agree that dropping down the steering column is probably the best way to get it out without breaking it.

Go with one of the bulbs designed for gauges that spread the light over a large surface. Generally, the best ones cost the most.
