hlsd for s14

ok, so i know that the s15 uses a hlsd and i know that obx makes one, but does anyone know if there are any other manufacturers that make a quality hlsd for the s-chasis? and if you have used them, please give me your opinion on them. i don't drift so please don't tell me to use a ctlsd or welded.

Quaife makes one too.

Just buy the s15 one, it's relatively cheap and it's OEM.

i know the s15 would be best but i just cant justify spending $1,000+ on a new s15 diff. and i want new a item with warranty. that's why i want opinions on different aftermarket ones that do the same thing for half the price.

It's an oem part that doesn't wear -- I really wouldn't worry about a warranty.

I got my helical for $320 shipped from ebay. Had it for over 2 years now with no problems.

Not everyone drifts. If they did, we'd all be ghey.

OP- The S15 is the best bet since it's OE, easy swap, and can be serviced at a dealer. You'd hate to buy a Kaaz, Quaiffe, or something high end then try and track down repair parts down the road. While aftermarket units are definitely better you don't seem planned to race it weekly or really abuse it. Go with the S15 diff.

thanks. after checking the prices on those others, the s15 diff doesn't seem so bad. and no, i don't track it. it's more like a GT car, comfortable and easy to drive, yet i can still take it down a winding raod and have a blast.

The S15 is a great diff for your needs. I love mine and wouldn't want any other diff under my car. I don't like the clunking clicking and other associated noises clutch types(non-viscous) emit. Although I'm sure they are great for their intended purposes.

And why does everyone think that because you have an s-chassis that you are a mad tyte drifting fan boi? It's so lame and gay when people ask me that bullshit.

Welcome to the last few years. Fifteen years ago we didn't have to deal with that nonsense.

if you want HLSD there are 3 choices
- OBX: about $380 new, no side bearings, using stock output shafts, cheapest but questionable quality
- S15: OEM quality, $400-500 used, often comes with side bearings, need S15 output shafts (and special ring gear bolts if you're anal about safety)
- Quaife: use stock output shafts, no side bearings, reputable in the racing crowd, pricing in the $1000 range for a new one

HLSD is not a wear item, so there's nothing wrong with using a used S15's. It's reliable & relatively inexpensive. My guess is that S15 units typically have very few miles as Jap drifters get rid of them pretty early to swap in clutch LSDs.

I've had S15 HLSD in all my past & current 240s. No complaint.
